Have that one in my log book, hump back runway IIRC.

I soloed at Rockwood. September 13, 1986.

In May of 2014, I landed there after flying from San Jose, CA. Before that, the last time I had landed at KRKW was in 1991. 23 years.

First time actually seeing a 5-blade prop on a piston engine airplane; Viking's Zenith Super STOL.

  • Fermi National Laboratory, once a powerful particle accelerator (now all experimental work is done at CERN in Geneva, often remotely by scientists housed at Fermilab).

Love this picture, I worked on the experiment housed in the building you're flying close to there. Good memories. :)

Unbelievable pictures @afCG! I was also at that fly-in (I can see my Tiger in the background of one of your pics) and I see you caught my friend’s Cessna 195 and another friend’s SNJ (T-6). It was a great fly-in. The Beech Staggerwing made me want to empty my 401k and buy one just like it. But then, unlike a Grumman, I don’t think you can live in one.

Thanks. I showed up in this BT-13 and camped under the wing Friday. Not sure how long I could live that way but I'm willing to try it for the cause.

A few more

Awesome pictures @aftCG! Look more like a painting. How do you get that effect?
I'm using an early Google pixel which had an outstanding camera. I only take pictures at first light or at sun down.
Next, Saturday morning dawned the with a dramatic weather system moving in. That along with wind, hills, sunrise =fish in a barrel.
I post process using as app called Snapseed.

Stop, you're killing me! This is truly airplane porn. :D

Seriously, I'm speechless, GORGEOUS photography.

Had my first few passengers on Sunday. Took my gf, who has a huge fear of flying, around the pattern just to get her some time in the plane. She handled it well and said the only thing that really scared her were turns. Felt like she was going to fall out of the airplane. I didn't take a picture of us as she was pretty pale and I don't think she would have appreciated me sharing it. Then took one of my friends that I teach with who is a big WWII aviation nut. It was a fun day. Bringing passengers along was a great feeling.

Disclaimer: This is not a picture of me and my girlfriend. o_O

Right traffic unfortunately for that day. Wind was only 04, but had a couple other people in the pattern so had to flow with it.

Yes, with folks that are afraid of flying, it's best to avoid the right turns that put them on the bottom.

sweet! not gonna deny we'd probably all rather see the other picture, no offense to ur buddy..... :)

I often hear people saying they're 'just gonna do pattern work' with someone who's afraid to go, and I always cringe at that. take them on a nice, straight and level flight, early in the am or in the evening if possible but stick close to the airport. anyways, she went up. hopefully she'll want to go have some real fun soon, and by that I mean one of the PoA Raves we always talk about doing.

I knew that was coming... haha

But yeah I see what you are saying. Next time I plan on doing that, nice straight level flight. Her one request was to just get up and land as quickly as possible so that was my reason for deciding on a trip around the pattern. Looking forward to next time and maybe I'll snag a picture

Formula for me was evening flight, calm weather. Make the takeoff imperceptible. Fly about 20 miles to our house, circle it to see it from the air and then straight back to the airport for the highest pressure landing ever. Taxi to on premise steakhouse and buy dinner and lots of wine... She then flew KRYY to Jekyll Island the next day. :)

Take her somewhere to eat, or shop. No, better make it somewhere to eat.

I was going to say, if that's your girlfriend we have some news for you.

2 weeks ago, but still pretty awesome. Daughter's first GA flight. Her smile after asking her, "Is this fun?" after the first turn. I planned to land back right away if she didn't like it, but we ended up picking up a friend and putting in 2.0 hours - although she had a good nap about 15 minutes after picking him up. She LOVED seeing the boats on the Chain O'Lakes (Fox River, NE Illinois) and didn't mind, even kind of enjoyed, the bumps. Last night we sat at the kitchen table with the portable intercom, headsets on, watching flying videos and listening to ORD Approach on the scanner.
