Attempted Pilatus theft

Well now, he has outstanding taste in aircraft.

If your going to steal an airplane ,steal a good one. Nice taste for a crook. Wonder if he could have gotten it started.

Sounds like an Airplane Repo show was being filmed :)

O2 masks pulled down, inflated life vests, just sounds like your run of the mill crack head found his way into a hangar.

Guessing he probably could have managed to turn the master on and hit the stsrt button, doubt he would know how to add fuel though, probably just burn up the starter/generator, drain the battery and maybe wack the prop on something.

Shoulda just shot him on sight, it's like finding a raccoon in your trash, you don't go trying to rehabilitate it, you just shoot it and put in into the trash bin.

staged nonsense to justify more clamp-down on little airplanes which post no threat to anyone. :/

TSA ball fondlers, coming to an FBO near you soon.

Sounds more like some combination of drugs and mental illness than terrorism. A terrorist would have had a plan of some sort rather than random mischief.

If he wasn't on the watch list before, he is now...

I hope you don't mean an LSA.

Propeller ties?

Checkout any picture of a PT-6 parked on a ramp and you will see what they mean. It's a free spinning turbine. The straps keep the prop in place.

Propeller ties?

A turbine will turn much more easily in the wind than a piston (no compression).

On the PC12 its two pieces that go from the bottom two blades and attach to the two exhaust stacks, MAIN reason is to prevent the prop from hitting the tow bar.

Yup..... And another reason is to keep the prop from spinning in the wind since when the motor is not running, there is no oil pressure lubricating the prop shaft bearing and they might " dry wipe"..

Hmm, Turbine theft.....let's think about this.....

If your smart enough to do everything right....might be an easier path to actually get a job in Aviation.

(ok...ok...ok....stealing the pc-12 pays better than most regional carriers....if you can get it to Mexico....avoid being shot by the cartel who employed you to steal it and make it home safely without being killed by another cartel on your trip home):wink2:

If your an ISIS member trying to do some damage....a Cessna 150 will accomplish the same results with less brain power.

One of these days someone is going to steal an airplane that actually knows how to fly one. Maybe they call that airplane repo? Hehe

We have that here. Some state employees whose sole job is to eradicate foxes. There hasnt been a live fox seen on the island in decades. But every year at budget time they sneak a few carcasses in from the mainland and create some roadkill here. The foxhunters live to fight for another fiscal year.

Why did he mess with oxygen masks and life vests, if he was just trying to start the plane?

"Police said a close look at the plane revealed obvious signs of tampering: oxygen masks were pulled down, life vests were inflated, tube covers and propeller ties had been removed, and the safety blocks had been removed from the wheels. It became apparent to investigators that someone had been trying to get the plane running."

Why would you steal a plane to run drugs? A free plane comes with job.:dunno:

Well, you are in Australia, the land where the primary subject at any party is the best way to get on the dole.

Throw the book at him. He can spend his own $$$ on a plane like the rest of us.

Give him a PC-12.

The upkeep would be punishment enough ....

Naw...

Scumbags like that would just jack it up, put it on cement blocks, sell the rims and tires, strip out all the copper and then let it sit and rot..:mad2::mad2::mad:

I can just picture the guy/gal who does this, and successfully logs ATP mins while running from the law in a stolen turbine :)

Looks more like vandalism, not an attempted theft.

You know the old saw about the cartel pilot job that comes with a free plane -- the catch is the only way to leave to job (alive) is to give the plane to the guy you get to replace you. If it was cartel-motivated maybe he was trying for a job interview. :D
