Cheapest way to commute via plane

Not surprisingly, everyone has said basically what I was thinking. 1: not really cost effective for such a short distance. 2: not gonna save much if any time in the end with such a short flight. Speaking even more specifically to point 2 above. My drive is normally 1:15-1:30 minutes, and...

Cheapest way to commute via plane

Ok, I drive 75 miles each way to work and back each day. I live 3 miles from my nearest airport, and work 6ish miles from the local airport. Exactly 51nm airport to airport. So, that being said, I've been pondering costs to fly, time savings, etc. how to make it cheaper, and is it even...

    Logging time question.

Oh, I agree, longer XC's are definetely fun, just didn't know how well my wife would handle the trip, nor did we have a lot of time. So, the XC time is required afterall. However, the XC time can be any actual distance, just has to be to any other airport. Cliff

    Logging time question.

http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/how_to_join/pilots_faq/ States: That being said, I don't see any mention of Cross Country time in 60-1 either. Either way, looks like I can legally log my flight at a XC, and I still have a lot more hours to log before I can get any "Paid For" hours and...

    Logging time question.

You are correct about that. Right now its all about building time and gaining experience. Cliff

    Logging time question.

Thanks for that explanation. I was under the impression that at least 1 leg of the flight had to be 50nm non-stop. Glad to know that is not the case. Cliff

    Logging time question.

Yes, The FBO Office was closed and locked up. I may be a new pilot, but not that new.. :) Of course, what I didn't say above is that Airport "C" had 90% of the taxiways closed for resurfacing, which made getting in and out of the FBO quite interesting. But that's a completely different...

    Logging time question.

I'm a new low time pilot just out having fun, and trying to get the most out of this expensive hobby. I have a goal to be able to fly for the Civil Air Patrol, but need to log a lot more experience and hours. Just one of the requirements is a decent amount of XC time, so that is why I have...

CFI's - How are you handling UAS applicants?

My CFI did mine for free. I also checked with my DPE for my PPL, and he was also willing to do it for free, but I already had relationships with both of them. Not exactly a walk in asking for help. Cliff

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

While researching my problem from above, im finding the same info. However, from what I'm seeing, if AHRS is disabled, then everything should work as it used to. Cliff

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

Was out flying today and had a few problems. Traffic would not stay on the screen. Would pop up for a few seconds, then disappear. Then if I connected to the stratux via safari, it would say disconnected. Refresh, I see the traffic list, go back to fore flight and traffic is shown, then...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

My Reyax GPS unit arrived today. Now I just need to add it to the unit, and get a box/case made up. I can't wait to see how it works with the GPS unit. Cliff

    First Aviation Headset - Help

I ended up buying one of these, because it was better than the tired and worn out DC's at my flight school. Not to mention, I'm not a fan of sharing items like this. For the price, they work great for me, and no complaints from my CFI when communicating with him. I would like to one...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

Thank You.. I'm seeing a tower within 30miles of me, so, I just might take a drive and see if I can pick it up as I get close. Cliff
