    Overhauls in Texas

We have a Piper Lance and it looks like we are in need of an top overhaul. Does anyone have shops they recommend for it? The plane is at KSNK.

[NA] Do you use a home warranty?

We had one the first year after we bought the house. The only thing it ended up being used on was a water heater. At first I thought I had come out ahead, but looking back, I replaced the water heater with a similar one when, if I had to pay myself, I would have gone a larger tankless system...

    Any Life Insurance Policies...

Why does debt have anything to do with it? Even without debt, the cost of living is quite high.

CAPS deployment caught on camera near FYV

Which part of the Cirrus training have you read recently that leads you to this opinion?

Anyone else noticed a lot of rain?

I never dreamed up it happening, but here in West Texas we are basically still looking for our first sunny day of summer. It's overcast now, but rain is unlikely. Normally, the 10 day forecast has one day of rain chances about 20% and the rest are 0%. Pretty sure it is done just to screw with...

1st XC in the Cirrus. Learning to trust computers.

I case you hadn't see this page, at the bottom of the page you can download a ton of the aircraft manuals including the POH. I've got the POH stored in iBooks. http://cirrusaircraft.com/support/

1st XC in the Cirrus. Learning to trust computers.

Check the POH page 7-60. You likely had far more fuel than you thought when the light came on.

    Where to ski near Denver?

Where did this come from? There are no parking lots remotely close to the gondola at Keystone. Also, the gondola doesn't get close to "hundreds and hundreds of feet" off the ground. On a more accurate note...For beginners, the front mountain at Keystone is great. For a little bit quicker...

Engine out- Xavion will land it...?!?!?

for those beating on Xavion, have you ever used it or seen a demo? The app itself is very impressive (if your planes glides better than a brick:)). The nearest function of the 430 doesn't come close to what this one does. Following of the guidance of this, it puts you on final at the correct...

Maybe those MT props are not such a bad idea after all….

Prior owner of our plane did it with a metal prop. Shaved about 3" off each tip. I saw it after the fact and it looked like someone just took a sander to the tips. Unfortunately the FAA agent on the field wasn't quite as impressed.

    Scuba Diving Destinations

It looks like the closest suggestions will take me to at least the tip of Florida. At that distance, a non-stop to Ft. Lauderdale starts sounding attractive. That being said, it was a drift dive in Cozumel that got me hooked on scuba diving. Many years later, my wife did one of the dives on...

    Scuba Diving Destinations

In about a year, my wife and I hope to head for a Scuba trip together. We will be starting the trip from Austin and heading off in a plane doing 150-175 kts. Are their any good scuba locations within a days range? We would likely spend 3-4 days at the destination. We are both advanced open...

Another Day, Another Cirrus Parachute Save

Nicely cut grass reveals nothing about the rocks and stumps below. I live in a place with lots of open fields. One of the first things we learning during training is don't aim for the grassy fields during an engine out if there are other options. The CRP land tends to have nasty rocks and stumps.

45th Cirrus CAPS (Parachute) activation in Aus and the best footage caught to date.

Re: 45th Cirrus CAPS (Parachute) activation in Aus and the best footage caught to dat I believe that has been tried for they last 100 years. The "How Pilots Kill Themselves" list has not gotten any shorter. (Not longer either).
