    VATSIM, PilotEdge or Other

I am very surprised they did not use foxtrot papa Charlie. Have to say never heard them do that. Most likely a fluke. As for hearing them talk to other traffic, that happens to me all the time time in the real world. At my home airport tower, ground, and clerance are all done by one...

    VATSIM, PilotEdge or Other

Coma24, yes PilotEdge Receiver. Agree about the busy part. Edits made above. And while we are on the topic of embarrassment, apparently hitting Post instead of save really will post your message instead of saving it for latter. These phones, auto text, and fat fingers will never catch on......

    VATSIM, PilotEdge or Other

There are really good videos and training on the PilotEdge website as well. Also if you listen to the PE receiver and get the idea of what is going on that can hep too. Listen to what is requested, what the controller gives back, and visualize what is going on. LiveATC. Net is good for that as...

    VATSIM, PilotEdge or Other

Been using PilotEdge since July. First It has made the Sim a real tool. It is really easy to practice procedures on the sim. I can nail all my procedures turns, altitude, and approaches. Add ATC asking for a frequency change or something you did not expect and now you are 200 feet low and 30 deg...

Towered Airport, Full Stop Taxi Back w/ Flight Following

I have had it happen both ways several times. Sometimes they say keep the code sometimes they give you a new one.

    Contacting approach for flight following

I used PilotEdge in this regard to get IFR Comms down,,,worked really well when I hit ATC for real. Very comfortable and was almost 100% the same.

    Contacting approach for flight following

Just call approach, who you are, where you are, what you want (FF to CRQ) . They will give you a squawk and either tell you where to go or attitude restriction or tell you to resume own Nav. Listen for free changes, no need to call ONT tower if you are talking to approach.

    lost on flight planning

Ask your instructor to sit down with you and do the first one together. Do all the calculations with them. Once I did it once with mine I was good to go. Make sure they show you how to calculate top of climb and start of decent. After one you will be good to go.

    Foreflight upgrade

So as an IT guy. NO Upgrades when you have something important or business critical going on (i.e. Checkride). Get the Checkride over and then enjoy the update, no reason to have anything unknown or unexpected happen in that case.

    Flight Following Question

When I went through FF was required. Only time you did not have to is if you where only going to the practice area. Even then they encouraged you to request traffic advisories.

    Flight Following Question

First welcome!!! I have found this forum to be a great resource... just don't bring up metal landing calculators......... I fly in the ATL airspace too so great to know another pilot looking to learn is sharing it with me. I am based at RYY, we may have to hook up at some point at one of...

    Go or No Go?

I live in Georgia and know your apprehension with this weather forecast. All summer this has been the forecast and we end up with 3K to 4K broken which is always a very full broken layer. You can usually get the flight in if you are willing to go early or at night. My rule personally is,,, if...

OK, what was the first plane where you sat in the pilot's seat?

Eastern Airlines DC-9 - think I was five but can remember it like it was yesterday.

    Bonanza belly landing

I am thinking the insurance company owns the plane at the point the gear would not come down. I'm hanging onto that engine just in case I botch the approach at the end and need to go around for another try. It would make for a worse day if I killed the engine and needed to try again to line up...
