Crash at gold course near KSMO Santa Monica

Pretty sure it was the ASTB spokesman I saw in an interview last night and he did a great job handling "gotcha questions." He reiterated multiple times that general aviation is very safe in general and remarked the pilot did a good job with a bad situation. I was impressed. Fox News has a...

    Written Test Costs

Bet they justify it by saying its a small percentage of a students overall cost but it all add up.

    Need Mac laptop info/advice

I use a five year old extreme that I used to pair with an express when I was in a house with copper pipes and needed to extend the signal. I did have pairing issues at times and I forget exact specs but using the express dropped quality, maybe didn't support n? I might look into two expresses...

    Sanity check before I buy...

Big difference in having 27k and having 27k allocated to a hobby. If I came off condescending, that was not my intent. Just my take to your question on whether you were making the right decision. Good luck.

    Need Mac laptop info/advice

Have to disagree. Photos are why I switched. Mac deals with RAW files natively and much smoother than windows. I don't use iPhoto and prefer to use referenced masters and control my own folder structure vice letting iPhoto or Aperture manage my photos. If that is what you were referring to I...

    Need Mac laptop info/advice

I have problems with beachball of death on aperture and I'm max RAM. Some new macs have to add all RAM on purchase - forget if that applies to MB pro Retina. If not, by RAM from secondary supplier and save money. Apple places a premium on their RAM

    Need Mac laptop info/advice

Pricing is pretty set but you can find deals at www.macmall.com, especially on older models when updates are announced. I just bought office for Mac because I like the standardization between work and home. I can't speak regarding open office. I made the move a few years ago and started with...

    Sanity check before I buy...

I just wouldn't be comfortable with less than $20k in the bank as a reserve. You need to factor other emergencies in life, not just an airplane engine. Not sure of your stage of life to predict what you need. I buy in to the 3-6 months expenses in reserve.

Hobbies that compete with our flying obsessions...

I just have a D300 but have the 80-200 VR II, 24-70/ 2.8, multiple tripods, filters, etc. which starts adding up. I'm stabilized now and saving for PPL.

Hobbies that compete with our flying obsessions...

Photography, family, and travel - what delays me getting my ticket. Sorry Kimberly, photography is not free is you are serious. $6,000 in gear and a wish list just as long. Once I save and getting PPL, will be easier to balance.

    Computer ground training

Haven't they change the test that is not a set bank of questions anymore? Seems they have to have a test bank perhaps it was enlarged greatly.

    Automatic phone number lookup?

Is call intercept available for any landline or carrier specific? Most of ours are blocked or unknown except for the calls from groups I'm affiliated with and like you I just don't answer. Frustrating that the reward for being charitable is incessant calls.

NA National Weather Service Buys Ammo NA

The system is broke. If your dept doesn't spend it by X date, they just give it to another dept. under continuing resolution we are forced to rely on EOY funds and keep the wish list up to date. We need zero based budgeting but it would take a major overhaul.

NA National Weather Service Buys Ammo NA

Year end money is my guess. Since congress hasn't passed a budget in over three years. Continuing resolution causes all sorts of problems phasing expenditures. Q1 of FY is almost no money. Q2 and Q3 lean and Q4 all of a sudden money is available and "must" be spent. Nothing wrong when an agency...
