The Impossible Turn - with in-cockpit video footage

The impossible turn is not so impossible. I had an E model Mooney for 7 years and wanted to know just how much altitude I needed to turn back 360 and then line up with the runway. With take off flaps, gear in the wells, one aboard and about 35 gallons I could turn and line up in less than 350ft...

    Glare Shield Refurb

I took mine to the local auto upholstery shop. They made me a new one to match the old one. I gave the guy approved fire retardent I bought from spruce and had him treat the materials first. Total cost was something like $100.

    Oil consumption

ya know ed, on my E I was using a quart every 5 hours and found quite a bit of it on the belly with no other oil burn symptons. It was almost like the oil was being sucked out of the breather. The little hole anti-sucetion/freeze over hole thats in the breather fitting seemed pretty small...

    Emergency Landing - Final Chapter

Lance, Are you on the Mooney list? http://www.aviating.com/mooney/subscribe.html The amount of money a knowledgable Mooney specific mechanic can save you is incredible. Also, the next time you run into something like that I'd call Don Maxwell at www.donmaxwell.com. He's is one of the...

    Scope of annual

$7000 seems like an incredible figure for an annual on a single unless it had some pretty serious discrepancies. The last annual on my m20e ran $800 before squawks.

    Engine analyzer interpretation

I wonder if it's possible that one of the spark plugs in cylinder 1 is either damgaged, not fireing or loose. You could try an inflight mag check to see if it reveals a bad plug. 390 in cruise seems high. What were your power and mixture settings at the time? I think what another poster said...

    Annual woes.

Hmm....most things can be dealt with and you can always make more money:) I had some equity in the plane so I refinanced 20k of it which happends to be about the increase in it's value as a result so if anything I'm not upside down on the thing. If you've read any of my various replys to the...

    Annual woes.

The 2nd annual on my m20e started last january. Now 10 months later it's almost complete, as a matter of fact, they test flew it today. Runs very well. EGT's are about 1210 and cht's are 310 to 330 at high cruise power settings and run rich for break in. My mech should have more data on the...

Could use a Ride From Texas to North Dakota

I'm at Sheppard AFB but I'd certainly travel some and cover half the fuel bill and any extra necessary to cover any extra flight time.

Could use a Ride From Texas to North Dakota

If anyone is going from from Texas to North Dakota in the next few weeks I sure would appreciate a ride. I have to pick up my Mooney from the overhual shop and airfare into North Dakota can get downright silly:)I'm an Air Force Officer and I had to leave the plane in ND when I PCS'd to Texas a...

    Mayor snaps. Calls out president

The levy commision run by the local politicians bought casinos and a jet instead of shoring up the levies. Local political corruption at its finest

NYPD To Use High-Powered Rifle From Helicopters

I'm thinking anti vehicle. Round through the engine block kinda stuff. You'd want a higher rate of fire weapon for shooting down errant light aircraft. Maybe .50 cal machine gun or one of the now thousands of surplus m-60 machine guns from the recent DOD switch to the 240. They also may be...

    today's no-go decision

Given that forcast, if I was trying to get somewhere I would have flown. I've done quite a few cross countries vfr in the last 3 years and my experience has been that the briefers are generally very conservative. The weather can always go either way. You take off given a reasonable forecast and...
