Airport suggestion for cruise out of Fort Lauderdale

We are scheduled for a January cruise and wondered if anyone has suggestions for an airport and FBO to leave the plane at for 8 days and get transportation to the cruise terminal.

    Let's talk wingtip strobes

I have the Whelen Orion series is LED Nav/Strobe wingtip lights. If you also have the LED strobes in the tail, it's legal to get rid of the rotating beacon. Fishing an extra wire to the wingtip is a little hard in Comanche's. My mechanic used a flyrod (without wire hoops), patience and *^%...

    Missing Logs

While my logs are complete, I wonder at the real value of them. I've digitized the hundreds of pages for the 50+ year plane. Who would really notice the one line 38 years ago about repairing the stab from a hanger collapse unless I told them where to look? Still - I have them all. I have a lot...

    GTX 345 Failure

My GTX 345 just failed with the "Transponder Failed No 1090ES TX" warning. It's on the way to Garmin for repair - just out of the 2 year warranty. My shop says Garmin will charge $1300 to fix, but the turnaround time is pretty fast - and the shop gave me a loaner meanwhile.

    Weekly Commute: Is It Practical?

I transferred from Buffalo to Philadelphia a few years ago, but couldn't move my family at first. From April to August I flew home every Friday night and back to work on Sunday afternoon. Missed one weekend for a mechanical problem. Driving would have taken so long I would never have the time...

    More Piper Comanche questions!

Good eye. The picture was taken close to when the factory reman was being installed. I went with gami injectors right away.

    More Piper Comanche questions!

Yes you can install Gami's. Helped me save about 1 gph - and I can run LOP if I want, but usually just go faster.

    More Piper Comanche questions!

I raised three kids with a 260B Comanche. We took one of the last row seats out but left the other one. My kids would actually fight for that last little seat in back. Getting to it was hard, but once in, the room (for a kid) is okay, they could look down at scenery behind the trailing wing edge...

    ADS-B hidden gems?

the Garmin 345 gives an audible verbal alarm when you are using the timer in countdown mode. I think it's "Coundown expired" or something close to that. It also give a traffic warning audibly like "traffic 11:00 high 1 mile". I'm not sure how it decides to executes this warning, but it seems to...

    More Piper Comanche questions!

I love my Comanche but I have two stories. My brother-in-law has a Mooney 231 (turbo). We fly together sometimes. Below 6000 feet I can beat him, but if it's higher his turbo takes over and I fall back. The other experience is once in solid IFR the controller came on and told a Bonanza that he...

    ADS-B hidden gems?

While the intent of the op's question is probably low cost, I found one very valuable "gem" with Garmin's GTX-345. The countdown timer gives an audible voice warning when it reaches zero - which is great with planes like mine that have 4 fuel tanks and require switching often. The audible voice...

Would you fly over a bridge with towers 440 feet tall under a 1200 foot bravo shelf?

The corridor flight up the Hudson River in New York is almost the same. You have to cross the Verrazano Narrows bridge while staying under the class B. I’d guess someone does that every few minutes all day long.

Flying Over Canada, But Not Landing In Canada

I've cut the corner from Erie to Saginaw crossing just south and west of London dozens of times. IFR. No fees if not landing in Canada - excellent hand offs. Last time was Sunday - every transmission ended "Happy Canada Day"

Why do yokes have dual handgrips?

Had a problem with a trim cable that jammed in the full down position. Landing was hard enough pulling back with both hands.
