    [NA] GMRS or HAM enthusiasts?

5WPM Extra here. Don't think I've made a CW contact in 20+ years. Was away from playing radio for maybe 15 years, returned a month ago. Thought for sure PSK31 would be dead, so tried out FT8. What a miserable experience. Sure, lots of "QSOs" in the logbook, but there's no interaction. Switched...

    Talking Heads

I would listen to them more, but I have a Fear of Music. (Disclaimer: Talking Heads are my favorite band of all time; and I'm a moderately old dude)

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Quick recap: started lessons in late 2021 with a fantastic instructor. Ex-USAF instructor, DPE, great personality fit. 9 hours in it was clear his DPE schedule was not conducive to continuing my primary training. Took 18 months off, mostly thinking, "maybe I buy that retirement sailboat and...

    Electronical help requested.

@Morgan3820 Because I'm a man of many hobbies, including Eurorack as @Baked Potato suggested, I happen to have a lot of feet of that ribbon cable and a big box of connectors. In fact, I have a dozen or so 1' or slightly longer cable assemblies already made up, just sitting in a drawer (haven't...

    Weird Real Estate Sale Price

Did the transfer deed say "$245,000." Or something like "$245,000 and other valuable consideration"? I spent the better part of a decade in the commercial real estate world as an appraiser. A lot of times, warranty deeds would list "$1 and other valuable consideration" on multi-million dollar...

Awful pictures in For Sale ads - post your examples!

The Hemi in my Grand Cherokee drops four cylinders at (sustained) highway speeds. Changes the exhaust note, and not necessarily in a good way. After a decade of ownership, I'm not convinced it makes much of a difference in fuel economy.

    Taylorcraft down California

From your included snippet: You highlighted the boarding/disembarking clause. But look at the part I bolded. Did that Taylorcraft suffer substantial damage? The comma and the "or" grammatically separates that condition out from the clause preceding it. Commas and conjunctions in legal verbiage...

[NA] Weird new credit card fraud thing? [/NA]

We have two credit cards; one for spot purchases, one that is only used for monthly recurring charges and automated utility payments and such. This way, when the spot purchases card gets compromised, I don't have to rekey CC info for all the monthly recurring stuff. The spot purchases one has...

Jack Russel Terrier, Anybody have/had one?

This is both true and untrue at the same time. Ours have always enjoyed tummy rubs and will curl up next to us while being petted. But, they will let you know when they've had enough. Usually by snapping at your fingers. My wife swears the old saw, "let sleeping dogs lie," was invented because...

Jack Russel Terrier, Anybody have/had one?

We had a JRT, Sherman. Although frequently he was referred to as Shermonster. His favorite thing was sniffing out cash money and eating it. We learned pretty quick not to leave bills in a pants pocket and then throw them on a chair or the bed, or to leave an opened purse anywhere he could get to...

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

I'm merely a student pilot (with a lifelong love of/fascination for aviation). I know I don't need to go through the helo parts of the ground school (ASA, in my case) material, but I figured it would be good to know. Flapping, feathering, lead/lag, that whole section gave me a certain...

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

I just learned last night the rotor actually flaps. That sort of blew my mind.

Standard width kitchen faucet with pull down spout.

We are on our second Delta Essa pull-down faucet. My wife likes it for the touch on/off functionality. If only the kids would stop turning it off manually, that feature would work better, I guess. At any rate, it has a pull down sprayer (stream or spray, selectable) and there is an escutcheon in...

    [NA]Password managers

I used to use 1Password but switched a couple of years ago to Keeper. Can't remember why. Both work. It won't be hell putting your username/password in whichever vault you choose. I'd characterize it more as tedious and mildly aggravating. Second @Piperonca suggestion on plain language. I use a...

    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

FWIW, PilotEdge is superior to VATSIM in my experience. Yes, it costs money, but the ATC interaction is much more realistic. Limited coverage area, however, so you may not be able to practice/sim at your home field.
