    Is AOPA worth it?

The benefit of supporting my interests is worth my membership plus my donations every year. It's a very small price to pay to help keep places to land still open and GA still running. Any of us who can afford to fly an airplane can afford to be a member and then some. If you don't donate the...

Helicopter school moves in, local pilots get cranky

    If I cared about being in a clique then I wouldn't have purchased a helicopter. : D

Helicopter school moves in, local pilots get cranky

This thread is super interesting to me because I notice the same behavior at my local airport. Between me and the CHP we are the only rotorcraft operators on the field. Yes we get the occasional school helicopters on the field but they are infrequent. Mostly it's just large turbine...

    Fixed Wing vs Rotor

EC-130. Call me biased but I think it's the best single engine helicopter in the world...

Low time pilot going to KSFO.

I fly into KSFO almost two times a week every week but in a private helicopter. It's a piece of cake and if you are a Signature Platinum member they will waive the handling fee which really takes a lot of the sting off. I don't know how it is for fixed wing but for a helicopter it's a piece of...

    Fixed Wing vs Rotor

I use an iPad mini on a knee board with a large format sticky note on the Smart Cover. You really don't want to use an iPad in a helicopter for anything but reference. If want to navigate with anything more advanced then a chart get a panel mounted GPS nav unit. Optimally you should have an...

    Bay Area Sporting Event TFR's

Alright so I called NorCal Tracon center and asked them what I should do point blank. They were very straight forward. They just said to tell the tower at SFO that I want FF out of the class B to the North East. As long as I am talking to someone in the TFR I am fine. They will clear me over...

    Bay Area Sporting Event TFR's

In my experience they usually don't let me cross into the surface C on the north end of the runway because that puts you in the missed approach for Oakland.

    Bay Area Sporting Event TFR's

There really isn't enough room to the North East between Oakland C and the stadium. Too close to call.

    Bay Area Sporting Event TFR's

Thanks, Seems logical. So it's like the Bravo clearance. You have to make sure they say you are cleared through the TFR and read back. Asking the busy SFO tower for FF through the TFR might be interesting. Remember as helicopters we don't talk to clearance delivery...straight to the tower...

    Bay Area Sporting Event TFR's

I have a question for you Bay Area pilots. Next week I have to pick someone up from SFO during Sunday's Giants game. My VFR helicopter flight to Napa KAPC puts me heading directly within the 3 nm radius of AT&T Park. What do you expect ATC will do with me upon leaving SFO? I know ATC can...
