Figured I'd start a thread where people can finish the sentence "I was offended when..."

I'll start.

I was offended when I told someone I was a small engine pilot and they said 'like RC planes?' "NO!! Like Cessna and Pipers" I guess I don't know what to call it. When I told people I got my pilots license they use to say "Oh so you can fly the 747's?" <sigh>
 
Offended for one won't seem offensive to others. Like the "Pet Peeves" thread thought this could be interesting.
 
Let's be clear on something. I'm an offender, not an offendee.
 
I was offended when I moved to Vermont. I apparently have a southern accent. So shortly after starting work at the new job, I get the "welcome to the company" meeting with the company president. Almost done with the meeting, and he says "I know, being from the South, that you're a bit slower than most people but I hope you can keep up."

The job was dead stupid easy. I could have done it in my sleep. I only took it because I had a deployment with the Guard coming up in a few months - otherwise I would have taken the time to get a real job.
 
I was offended when, after mentioning I had retired after 27 years of military service, someone asked what the taxpayers had gotten in return for my "free" flight instruction.
 
I was offended when I attended the monthly Pilot Association meeting at my airport and a guest speaker didn't know whether or not to give me a handout. He came over and said "do you want one too" (in other words, he figured I was there with someone and could not possibly be a pilot).
 
Chuck Norris was offended when he attended a pilot meeting. The speaker came over with handouts and said to him "do you want one too" as if there was a possibility that he might require some additional pilot resources.

Actually this handout was more information about saving / helping a local small airport in trouble. I've been meaning to post it to POA but it will take a while (that whole email your local congress person thing).

In his defense, he did ask. When 95% of the people who look like you at these events are not pilots, it's not out of the question for him to be uncertain.

What would have been bad, was for him to just to completely assume otherwise.


For example, I was out looking for cars for my wife, and the car salesman said to her "you don't want this one, it's a stick", without even asking her if she knew how to drive one.

She was offended.

Well I don't know about that. If I dragged my girlfriend to a pilot association meeting i'd probably be flyin solo for a while

lol, I guess that could be true. Not sure how many people at those things are generally not pilots.
 
If I attended a pilot association meeting and I saw a hot chick, I'd just take it for granted she was there to pick up on male pilots.

I can deal with the busted lip and bruised cheeks afterwards if I'm wrong. No biggie.

This is the offended thread!

I had to think hard to figure out when I was offended (and even then, not so much).

That meeting was almost a full month ago!

(Wait, is this me getting offended that you think I get offended too easily?)
 
I usually do my best to just ignore the stupid negative things people say to or about me. I guess the only time anyone ever said anything that really hurt and offended me was that day, many years ago, when she said; "I do"

That is probably the situation that offended me the most. I was looking for a larger SUV with a stick. The salesman tried to tell me that was a mistake because there is no resale value in a stick. I told him I don't buy things for the next owner. He suggested I go home and talk it over with my husband. I'm not married! 26 years and 4 sticks later including 2 powerstroke diesels, I have not been back in that dealership.

I don't know how to drive an automatic!!!!:wink2:

Why on earth would rational pilots fly spam cans when experimental aircraft are faster, more powerful, more economical, easier to fly, and newer? :confused:

I was offended when I heard one of those airplane's with cheap, uncertified, FAA-considers them dangerous, avionics packages get "cleared for the approach" from a controller.

Heh heh.
 
...we opened our first hotel in Iowa, and one of our first guests asked me if I had "a full-time regular job" too? I was working 18 hour days, 7 days a week!
 
..."someone" made the determination that a person holding a particular job was more important than other people so a TFR was put up around the person and all the other people had to adjust whatever they were planning to do so the important person could be accommodated.

Yea, I never understood that. We have a VP for a reason.

The office of the President of the United States is to be protected at all costs. Not so much the person.

I think every reasonable precaution should be taken to protect his safety, but reasonable does not mean to shut down every freeway and overpass he rides on over, or under.
 
I get offended every time I hear a politician butcher our Constitution. That's all I'm saying lest this thread go to SZ...

I'm offended that you're offended.

Experimental amateur-built (E-AB) aircraft represent nearly 10 percent of the U.S. general aviation fleet, but these aircraft accounted for approximately 15 percent of the total-and 21 percent of the fatal-U.S. general aviation (GA) accidents in 2011.

Well a lot of people buy experimental aircraft because they like to go fast (or fast for cheap).

The RV, Glasair, and Long EZE derivatives are a good example. Those three aircraft make up a lot of the deaths in 2011.

So if you limited GA aircraft to anything that cruses over 160mph, I think you will see vastly different numbers.

A straight up comparison, is like comparing the deaths on a crotch rocket motorcycle, compared to a cruiser, and using that statistic to explain how much less safe the crotch rocket is.

It's not the bike. It's the people who ride them.

I disagree with that comparison.......

Most deaths on cycles are from the cruiser ranks...

In the last few weeks around here there have been several fatalities on bikes. In EVERY case it was a doc/lawyer/banker/accountant with a hankie tied to their head , and no helmet, either going to or coming from Sturgis. They are mostly having a mid life crisis and wanna be Easy Rider... They end up as organ donors.:sad::sad::(
 
I was offended when someone took my thread idea, put a slight twist on it, and called it their own. Maybe that's more of a peeve. Not sure.

I'm offended when someone criticizes my choice of hobby, food, drink, tv, movie, etc... for no damned good reason other than THEY don't like it.

Exactly man, midlife crisis biker...:nonod: They are the road meat. Dude, if you are 40 and didn't grow up on motorcycles and three wheelers and stuff, you don't start on a heavy street bike at 40. If you need a Harly and you have an old lady that you want to ride, consider an 883 and get some experience for you both and then you can upgrade and she gets the 883.

I see it all the time...:( I blame the dealers, it's in their best interest all around to breed a long term step up buyer. Don't get the guy killed,:nono:.
