Hayden's Air Tour

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

So who has Hayden now?

Jason or Jesse in Nebraska. I wonder if he is still in the back of the plane. Kent alerted Jason of the stowaway after we landed back in MSN.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

I have Hayden. I went back to the airport the next day to get him out of the Cherokee.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Not sure. But if possible I would like to take him traveling in January. I am off to Levi Finland, 170km north of the arctic circle. Not too often a gnome heads up north and gets near to Nome

Sure. Guess we'll just have to have another fly-in somewhere to meet up.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Hey! I came!!!! I stayed!!!! I made your life chaotic for several days! :D

And it was great! Which is why I wonder why no one else will stop or even let me know they MAY be stopping.

Missa

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Sorry... It wasn't a planned stop. They were just the ones that had the IFR charts I needed. Great little airport though, I want to come back!

Excusses, excusses!

But Lockhaven is quite a nice airport and has a MUCH better pilot shop then Williamsport does! They stopped carring charts at Willamsport... I don't know why but it doesn't make sense to me.

Missa

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Hayden is still on the loose! And he made it to the farm! He wanted to go for an aerobatic ride, but I told him he had to mow the runways first.

Thanks a lot Spike! :p

OK, who wants him next?????? That is, if he survives playing with the grandkids at Thanksgiving. :rolleyes2:

BTW, what happened to the back of his head...did he blow his top? :dunno:

Excellent!! Hayden is in Mo. Where will he go next?mmmmm aint' been to the west coast yet!:fingerwag:

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

You know, this really isn't any good unless someone is keeping a diary of Hayden's adventures. Is that being done other than this thread?

Yeah he needs a "log book" :D

Have you had him yet Greg? If not, then he can come see you and you can start his logbook. B)

He hasn't been in a Cirrus yet either. Hmmmmmm, wonder when Joe Areeda is passing this way again?

Hayden said he doesn't want to do any more aerobatics.

You scared him after being inverted for 30 seconds and the engine quit huh? :)

Oh. :D Poor little fella. He DID say that he isn't sure about returning to Jesse's since the gun incident. :D

I wonder about that name tag on his backside...should I leave that on there???? :dunno:

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

I was going through my stuff and I found a holiday card that came for Hayden.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

So where IS Hayden?
Hayden currently resides at Twin Oaks. He is looking for a loving home. If he doesn't find one before Gaston's, he asked if he could fly down with me. He will be sitting cheerfully on the picnic table on the flight line at Gaston's with a sign around his neck that says "Take me home, but not you, Chip!" :D

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Not to throw a weg rag on the party, but......

It is time to remark on the reason why he is named Hayden. We have, owing to his namesake, permanently lost the liberty of flying in the Washington DC space. Hayden James Scheaffer we shall remember you.

Sigh.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

That's throwing the rag on the party Doc. The rag on the party is him sitting with various people for weeks or months on end. The point was to use him as an incentive to get PoAers together outside of the major flyins. But it seems like he just sits with one person until the next big fly in. He didn't make it to 6Y9, did he make it to Tony's Thanksgiving gathering?

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

b did he make it to Tony's Thanksgiving gathering?
Nope. I had a house full of company for several days over Thanksgiving, so, unfortunately, I couldn't make it. How 'bout if you fly down and get him.

Naw, but he did make a trip to Marfa, where he hung out with Dr. Dave for a while, after which he stowed-away again back to Dallas with me a month or three later (something about having been sniffed one time too many by those west Texas javelinas.

Then, he made the pleasant mini-fly-in at Cedar Mills, and that's when he hitched a ride to Twin Oaks with Diana, the Flying Goddess.

You are, of course, correct- Hayden needs to be better about send e-postcards to let the crowd know wassup.

Been planeless for a year.

Well, then, perhaps you shouldn't put others down for trying to keep Hayden alive when you aren't doing anything yourself.

Where was the put down? I kind of think this is a tad out of line.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Where did THAT come from?:dunno::nono:
I'm just getting sick of seeing how much none of us try to move Hayden around as much as Ed would like, or how no one tries to get to his fly-in, etc, etc. A lot of comments in a lot of threads and I finally said something.

Not really appropriate for this thread, and with that, I'll drop it.

Before you guys go jumping on each other too hard, stop and think about what you're seeing. Ask yourself if some complicity could be involved.

Anybody who knows anything about farm life knows that most of the dogs who live there were strays who just wandered up one day. The owners fully intended to run them off or take them to the pound, but the big sad eyes and the wagging tail made it impossible. Now they're part of the family and get their shots every year.

I only met Hayden once. It was a brief meeting, and he didn't come across as being what I'd call a dynamic guy. OTOH, he had a nice-enough way about him, and one that might grow on you over time if you lived in the sticks and didn't exactly "enjoy life in the fast lane" as they say here in big D. Pass the witness.

Oh, we don't really want to go there do we? The writing on the bottom of Hayden if still there - my hand writing. Hayden started with Adam and I at Wings. We already "had" him at the beginning, and the point behind it was to try and get people from the board together more often and not at the flyins, and get him around to as many different people possible. I already dealt with Hayden once, everyone else should have a go round first, before we start having having him end up with Grant and Leslie 6 times. (only mentioned because they almost ended up with him twice already) Instead, he just sits. Hey, if you aren't going to make an effort to meet up with someone, don't take him.
As far as the other comments go. Yeah, I'm sorry that our fly-in isn't as awesome as the almighty Gaston's. Sorry that I'd like to get my dad a little more apprciation from pilots that supposedly care about what happens to the future of GA. He personally saves an airport from becoming a drag strip for whatever motorized vehicle feels like tearing it up, and there's hardly a word said. Yes, there's a few of you who have made an effort, and let it be known that my dad is a rare asset to the aviation community even if you haven't been able to say so in person. And we do appreciate more than you know those that make the effort to get up there despite the financial hit it puts on people. Sorry that it cheeses me off when we have to hear people ramble on and on and on and on and on about how Gaston's is the end all be all of fly-ins, and Tony's fly-in (which I was even going to drive to this year, except weather and work didn't cooperate) or Adam's fly-in will never ever, ever be as awesome as the Holy Mecca of PoA flyins known as Gaston's. Yeah, I'm sorry I'm a little tired of the snobbery that goes along with how Gaston's this and Gaston's that.
Sorry that I think Adam's fly-in is better than Gaston's because I know about all the work that he puts into it. Yeah, he doesn't have cabins on the field, but he opens up his house to out of towners, runs around for a week before hand getting everything together, shuttles people to and from the airport and downtown and the hotels. Coordinates with local suppliers, negotiates fuel discounts with the FBO, and get prizes donated from them as well for various people that show up. Andrew Stanley driving hours with his smoker and then staying up until 3, 4, 5 in the morning smoking the brisket so people that show up have some wicked awesome food.
Sorry my dad spends hours and hours and hours mowing, moving dirt, planting grass seed, spending his own money to try and save an airport. Or that my mom busts her butt for a a week ahead of time, goes up a week early, ends up hauling stuff for 9 hours in a car or truck. Then spends another hour and a half driving to the closest town with a decent store to get the things that couldn't be hauled up, or brought up for whatever reason, and then when things don't go as planned keeps herself together long enough to not go postal in front of everyone. I don't know the amount he and mom have spent out of their own pockets for that place, and not sure I want to, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is well above the national average for what someone makes in a year, or double that. And they both keep doing more and more just to try and get some more people up there to not only get together, but try and kick some money into the local economy to keep them going. Sorry that my parent's sacrifice an entire holiday weekend because they want to give people an extra travel day in case of weather, just in case they decide to try and make it. Instead, there is excuse after excuse after excuse of why people can't do something or fly to a gathering more than 90 minutes from their place. Like anyone who shows up to Gaston's doesn't make sacrifices elsewhere in their live order to make it.
But nooooooo, the real effort is made at Gaston's where a phone call is made to have ice and picnic tables are brought to the flight-line, and a phone call is made for reservations for dinner and brunch. (Yes, I know there's the website that goes along with it, but the ones working on that aren't the ones going on and on about how much better Gaston's is than anything else every conceived.) Oh, that's a whole lot effort that went into making reservations....oooooooh.
And sorry that is gets under my skin that Adam will fly halfway across the country fighting storms on the way there and back, but his Fly-In isn't worth the effort to have the favor returned. Or that one might be within 20 minutes of his place, but won't even let him know they were around. Sorry that I see excuse after excuse from people as to why they can't make it to Adam's or Tony's (yeah, I know I have a Wx excuse myself) or my parent's fly in. (It's not even my fly in, I honestly don't do that much with the fly-in itself) Sorry that people make a huge effort to fly across the country to see others they might consider friends, only to be considered not good enough to have the same courtesy shown to them when they put way more effort into things than would ever go into Gaston's. Or that after dealing with weather, winds, mechanical issues to get to Gaston's, etc one can't even let someone know they are in their aviation back yard when galavanting around the country. I'm just sick of all the Gaston's nut hugging when the facility itself isn't involved with PoA, and could care less if we show up or not.
That said, this will probably be my last post and visit to PoA. My dad is on here now (elcon), anything to do with 6Y9 can be asked of him.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

O happy day, another argument/spat to read and another time I question why I read thisi board. There are children present apparently.

I am a believer in the policy "if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything." I wish more people practiced that.

Wayne that was a hoot thanks for the chuckle. Ed take s deep breath. Gastons is just big and easy cause everything is right there. I don't think anyone is touting as better than Wings or 6Y9er or Tony's. Its expensive to get to that many places in a year. Plus the folks that do Gastons don't bill it as a POA flyin nor do they want it to be. Thats ok its their event. But then all our flyins are open to all folks who love the skies as we do.

FWIW I think that this past 6Y9er was perhaps the best flyin weekend I've ever attended. The amount of fun that I had should be illegal. Sometimes smaller is better the intimacy of the group adds a Lot. Plus Pete and Tony will vouch that with more people we would have run out of crown & coke just that much faster.

Also FWIW I don't think Brad and you got the credit you deserve from the GA organizations for reopening 6Y9er that did tick me off.

Anyway one flyin is not better than the others they are just different thats all. I hate to see you get this upset really its not worth it. Take a deep breath and hang in there and don't stop hanging out here as your friend I'd really hate to see that.

And folks do me a favor please don't turn this tread into a debate on the issue. Keep it about Hayden.

BTW Ed thanks for the kudo on the Wings FlyBQ.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Just some random thoughts:

There is a full moon tonight.

Whatever happens, it's probably Spike's fault :D

I am sensing that I should feel bad or guilty, but I don't. ;)

I only met Hayden once. It was a brief meeting, and he didn't come across as being what I'd call a dynamic guy.
Wayne, you crack me up. :D

I'm open to whatever you all want me to do with Hayden (except Chip's idea ).

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

Oh, we don't really want to go there do we? The writing on the bottom of Hayden if still there - my hand writing.

Ed... Read your handwriting. IIRC it says something about getting Hayden to Wings, Gaston's, 6Y9... The fly-ins.

Yeah, it'd be nice if he'd get to travel more. But first of all - People don't seem to want him. Nobody volunteers to take him - I had trouble getting rid of him. I ended up with him twice, and both times I had to get him to move on by having him "stow away," once with Jesse and once with Spike. Now that in itself is kind of fun. Maybe people don't "get it" but you do seem to give an inordinate amount of crap to people about it sometimes. If they don't get it, don't try to force them to participate, because things you're forced or just coerced into are often not fun, and that's the whole point isn't it?

And folks do me a favor please don't turn this tread into a debate on the issue. Keep it about Hayden.

And with that in mind... New thread, comin' up. Here it is.

Tony's already stood up for me not being a lightweight...

+100000000. I had more fun at 6Y9 than I'd had in ages (or since). I'll be back this year. Hopefully with an Aztruck full of people and camping gear.

Re: Hayden's Air Tour 2007

I was rather amused at Hayden stowing away with me... heck, he must have liked me, he did it TWICE!

---

Anyway, y'all all play nice. whatever went wrong, got you bent out of shape, it's my fault, like Diana said.
