Crazy lady attacks seaplane in Halibut Cove, AK

Apparently, a woman in HC who owns a ferry boat and a restaurant there attacked a seaplane with a smaller boat she also owns just recently.

Beaver taxiing out of cove while she crossed the plane, causing a prop strike in a large wave.

No link, it's in Reddit with video. Sounds like she has dementia and feels she owns the cove.

Rumor has it that an AK politician was on board.

Hopefully someone here has more info.

My guess is that she will shortly become a defendant. Civil, criminal or both.
 
Most if not all places you are responsible for your wake. There are some real tools out there.

I’m just waiting for someone to come in here and defend her actions. So I’ll go ahead, maybe she was trying to stop those Airplane Repo guys, or thought someone was stealing the plane…

The Homer/Kachemak Bay area really seems to attract the nut cases. I mean in Homer folks must spend tons of $$$ to keep those 50-60 year old VW bugs going. 1969 is alive and well in the area.

Maybe she read AC 90-66B and decided that she had the right-of-way. ;)
 
They didn’t cover nutters in my Seaplane training. Rules of the road on water, yes, loons driving boats, no.

Although they did suggest avoiding any lake with a significant population of Jet Skis.

She’s well known and has a vendetta against floatplanes. Her boat will probably be for sale in the state auction next year though if anyone is looking for a deal!
 
What are the possible criminal charges, and max penalties?
Also interested in the possible civil suit costs ie what is the propstrike/loss of income going to run; and if applicable, the (mental) pain and suffering costs?

Just curious about what the law has the potential to do to her - I know some people would blow it off as a 'crazy lady' and hope she reins it in; but some of us also think she should lose her business, boat and maybe rot in a jail somewhere.
 
IANAL (thank God), but it seems to me that it’s not much different from any other method used in attempting to damage or destroy an aircraft in operation, such as a bomb or missile. She could easily have destroyed the plane by sinking it, and people could have been killed. Seems like a terrorist act to me.
 
I knew I would find this here. I saw this on TikTok, and tried to find the AOPA forum where I knew this would be a topic of discussion. Is this the same board that had pigs flying in the banner image? It's been a while

I think neighbor disputes are as old as Cain and Abel. I'm not ready to label brother on brother as terrorism. Besides, hatred for your brother in your heart is the root sin, not "terrorism."

The question I was addressing was, “Just curious about what the law has the potential to do to her.” The potential could be dramatic if they really want to be as harsh as possible.

Maybe walking the plank or keelhauling might do the trick if milder forms of altitude adjustment don’t work.
 
Put her in a plane in the middle of the lake w/written instructions to try and make it back, under the same circumstances of course, but that wouldn’t be fair to the plane.
 
The trick is you want to aim the camera at your subject and try to hold it as still as possible. If needed, rest your elbow on a structure like a hand rail. If that isn't an option, you can squat down and rest your elbow on your knee to keep the camera steady. Also human eyes are side by side not top to bottom so the preferred orientation is horizontal not vertical.

I wish more people realized that switching a smartphone to landscape mode is as simple as turning the phone on its side.
