What should you know prior to going to see/inspect your perspective buy.

This is kinda an open ended question, but each should know what they want to know about the aircraft they are about to buy.

I think each should know what they want to know about the aircraft they are about to buy ;)

A good APIA and CPL who's bought and sold before, or have a good network of aviation folks.

What kind of beer the really knowledgeable A&P you got to come look at it with you likes.

Beer is for afterwards. Cash gets the inspection and signature! ;)

For my A&P, beer is to get him to show up at all. Cash is to pay for his time. ;)

IOWs nobody cares if the guy they are dealing with actually is the last registered owner.
Or if the AD list is current.

No.

As long as the person is able to legally sell the plane.

And presuming any Ad list is current, without confirming it for yourself, is a rookie mistake

There are other people allowed to sell the aircraft, but wouldn't you like to know your not getting into a possible scam?

Ad searched are so easy now days anyone should be able to do it. I'd be worried about those who can't.

Once saw an ad, looked up the legal owner, because it looked like a really good deal, the owner says "What? my aircraft isn't for sale" It was just a scam trying to get a fish to bite.

Same with a person claiming to be a owner.

Ether way, it's still a thing one should verify. Check names, copy IDs, etc

It's nice to know whether the seller claims the ADs are current, but I'm certainly not taking his word for it. Or SB's, in the case of many Experimentals. That will be discovered during the pre-buy process. It might not affect whether I'm willing to buy it... I bought the one I have now and it needed a fair amount of catch-up work done. It definitely does affect what I'm willing to pay for the plane, of course. It's like a car or bike. Tires worn out? Battery too old? Don't care. I just adjust the price accordingly. In fact, vehicles (of any sort) that need some work can be outstanding deals if you're willing to do the work or have it done. A lot of buyers won't even look.
