I got to give some dual in this airplane today. It replaces the Citabria as the easiest taildragger I've ever flown. It's big and roomy inside, but underpowered for my taste. The gear is exceptionally wide and the track is long, so it handles very well on the ground. It's built like a tank.

Well, Chip, it certainly is.... homely.

Well, Chip, it certainly is.... homely.

The first time I read this I thought it said, "Well, Chip certainly is... homely." which, while true, seems a bit harsh coming from a friend.

I'm glad I read it again. :D

As for the airplane being homely, less so than many others I think. It's fun to fly something there are so few of.

In any event, it is a heckuva lot better looking than my plane!

And Chip, I would not presume to comment on your appearance, which would (regardless of what I said) be just plain creepy.

There really aren't too many planes I would not like to fly. Tommy's current lament is that he'll never get to fly a B36 Peacemaker; his fal-back is teh B52, and that, he might yet fly... and his son after him!

My first glance thought was: Who put upside down Cub wings on that plane?

But hey, roomy, nice handling, it flies. Who can ask for more than that?

My family owned an A-1 Callair for quite some time and used it for cropdusting. It was cheaper to fly then the Stearmans but apperantly flew like crap. Apperantly it was real mushy on the controls and very easy to get into an accelerated stall scenario when loaded with spray.

The bonus was--it flew so crappy that they built it to survive one hell of a crash.

The A-1 Callair was the first airplane I ever flew in at a few weeks old. This was right after my dad got a ticket for taking me for a motorcycle ride..apperantly a baby laying on top of the tank isn't safe. I'm not sure how I survived early childhood.

I didn't think this one flew crappy but I can't imagine adding hopper weight to it and increasing the drag (if that's possible) with a spray rig. I can see where flying that might be a long day.

Not as ugly as a Let, that's for sure... put a bigger engine on it an it'd be something.
