I sent an email on Saturday to a broker regarding an airplane he has listed on Controller, it requires a phone number so I sent that too. It's 1:20 on Monday and no response yet. I understand Easter weekend and didn't expect any answers until this morning, I will track and see how long it is until I get a response and report to the group. :)In the car business and response over 15 minutes is considered unacceptable, airplanes maybe not so much. For the record, I didn't make a low-bll offer or ask for the plane to be flown to me for inspection, just a few questions about the ad and asked if he had any panel pictures. :)

When I was hunting I ran into a couple that didn't respond for a week. I also had some that responded within the hour on Sunday. It is all about who wants it more. :)

You seem like an intelligent, reasonable person. Which makes me wonder why you'd respond to an ad that didn't include a picture of the panel.

And I thought about you while posting my pet peeve this morning. "Nah, he'd never do anything like that."

Why wouldn't you?

Folks sales and photographic abilities are not always a indication of the quality of their aircraft.

I always call the overpriced or under described or no photo listings, because others don't and that can result in a VERY good deal for me.

When I helped my buddy get his plane, the broker had OK photos, didn't know much about the airplane and was asking WAAAY too much, I did my due diligence on the plane, owner wasn't getting any bites on the listing, at that price I knew this, hit him with a super low offer, peeled him back off the ceiling, little back and forth and my friend got a sweet little 2 seater for a sweet little price.

Basically the seller asked too much and didn't get any hits, it sat for sale for so long like that, that he just wanted it sold so he agreed to my offer

A broker should know better... There is no such thing as too many pictures when representing an aircraft... IMO... No sense in hiding anything, its a waste of time, otherwise...

Too many aircraft brokers do it as a side line to their corporate/charter/cargo/instructional/whatever flying and put the most minimal amount of work into selling the plane. It is very frustrating for the serious buyer.

It has a description of the avionics, just not a panel picture. I asked a question about the maintenance program as well, all signs that I want more information on the plane. It seems to be priced right, but a lot depends on the answers, which as of 4:30 I don't have. I may try to call tomorrow, but I may not. I just think it's important to respond to all inquiries, it's not like he's getting 100 a day! o_O

You expect people to be smart, honest and good at their job. Get in line. :D
Seriously, especially in the middle-man-for-hire business. If he was already paid, he doesn't give a hoot.

Find the owner and contact him directly. And don't forget to let him know what a great service he paid for.

It's in an LLC, I am not going to chase it, there are a lot of airplanes for sale, this one seems to be priced right, but it's no good if the guy doesn't respond! He has TWO of the 16 listed for sale!! You'd think he'd want to sell one of them!

There are a lot of poor ads out there. I've been browsing a lot recently, and it amazes me how many don't have many (or any) pictures.

I'll still call or contact about something I'm interested in, even if it is poorly represented. It's much like real estate - some brokers do a bad job with photos. The house we ended up buying in Ohio had horrifically awful pictures, and only 1 or 2 of them. It was fortunate that we took the chance and went to see it, because it was a great house.

The aviation business is much slower overall in terms of time to get things completed in most cases. Whenever I've been dealing with a purchase or a sale (aircraft or otherwise), I've always worked to make things happen in a timely manner, with prompt responses to all questions.

So, John, what're you buying? :D

Not sure if I am buying anything yet, I have a guy that said he would buy my 425 if I ever wanted to sell it, we'll see! After reading about James and his Blackhawk, I am considering going back to a 441 and I found one that appears to be a good deal, like most of them it will need a trip to the avionics shop. ;) I need to do some more research on the cost for overhauls, these engines have about 900 hours until TBO which is close to 10 years for me. But, if I can buy it right, I'll worry about that in 10 years or if the pattern holds, 3-4 years!

If 15min is unacceptable, most Nissan dealers I have contacted in the last couple of months are sub-par.

Ever tried to get your MX to return a txt message? OMG...... Seriously. Unless it's "free pizza a beer on the way", good luck.

My maintenance guys are good about answering the phone and returning messages! It's good to be a medium size fish in a small pond!

It's amazing how people ignore internet contacts, they would all answer phone calls!

I recently inquired with a broker in KY about a plane using the online inquiry option. The reported wait time was 24 hrs. I had a call back in under an hour. And even tho it was 100% a 'tire kicker' inquiry, I had a nice conversation with the salesman and will definately consider that broker when Im really ready to buy.

Even worse are the ones that don't even read the inquiry I sent but reply with 'give me a call so we can talk'. No dip####, I contacted you through your own companies customer relations system, I don't want to 'talk', I want an email response. And as I inquired about a very particular car that is listed as available on your lot, I am not interested in any other cars you may have.

I'd think with 900 hours left on the engines I probably wouldn't worry a whole ton so long as the price was reasonable. As you said, it'll last you a good number of years, and when you go to sell it then the sale price will reflect the engine times. I haven't heard of people running Garrets past TBO the same as Pratts, but that would be one consideration as well.

But in 3-4 years you'll be back in a Citation, so it won't matter. :D

I could save some money right now by skipping the 441 step and going down to a Citation now! :)

I like the way you think!

And you've been culling the opposed engines from your fleet... ;)
That's my goal. Round engines and little wheel in the back.

I'll be down to just tailwheels soon once we complete the pending sale of the Baron. Then I'll lose the flat engine 170 once I get to 1500TT.

I'm just feeding 2! And I want to keep it at 2. :)

1 for me, and I like it that way! We had two for a while with the Aztec and 310, and I found that really didn't make much sense.

Congrats on the pending Baron sale. I think the lower gas prices we've seen recently have helped to revitalize the piston twin market to some degree.

I think they call them a broker, because that's what they make you....broker.

John, I got an even better idea for you. G-IIs are cheap, buy one of those! Then you'll really have fast! :D

I have sent several e- mails to a brokerage firm, and their individual brokers,in the last month or two. And have never recieved a response.

Something to note within aviation is that much of it is handled by people for whom telephone and face-to-face contact are still primary forms of communication. Other than eBay, Sportys, and the like, most parts you end up needing to buy via telephone. Few of the parts houses I deal with regularly have a good online database, and if they do, you still have to call to order. Airplane purchases are often similar. It's maddening to those of us who are on computers all day and do most of our communication via eMail, but I've found it to be a fact of aviation life. You can look at it as it hurting the broker since they don't sell the plane, but if it's a good plane, then you probably want it. Good planes can be hard to find.

Yeah, but who wants to drag a co-pilot around everywhere??

I married my favorite pilot, so that would be just fine in our household.

Of course, with roughly 3x the hours that I have, she's the senior pilot. So I guess she'd be dragging me around everywhere if we were in a 2-pilot aircraft. ;)

And you get the to sleep with your co-pilot when you get to your destination! ;)

aircraft is most-likely sold and lots of sales people are not smart enough to chat you up anyway .you might buy something else in his bag of tricks. but this generation does not think.plus they are rude

I thought about that, but he has another one listed as well! I may call tomorrow, but the longer I wait the more I look at other options, like a newer boat!

Ever see a car dealership actually excited to sell a car in a hurry and get you on your way?

Every time I've ever been in one, I want to yell at the idiot who keeps having to go "ask someone" for permission to sell at the price he just wrote down, "Do you sell many cars here, or what, a@@hole!? Is this something brand new that you don't do every day? Send over someone who actually sells cars, thanks."

Nothing about a car dealership is EVER about customer service. The places are designed to be as absolutely annoying as possible.

I'd rather stick a spork in my thigh than have to walk into a car dealership for something. Anything.
