(This is humor.... Not SZ fodder... And yes I stole it from a Chuck Lorre vanity card.)

Dear President Obama,

Even though I am not qualified in anyway to be a Supreme Court justice, I would still like to be considered for the open seat. Before you dismiss my request is comic nonsense, I'd like to point out that the current primary race to be POTUS makes it very clear that a lack of qualifications is an advantage. I don't see why that principle doesn't apply to SCOTUS. Please no I am happy to supply my own robe.

Jurisprudently yours,
AggieMike

I saw that on Big Bang Theory tonight also. The guy does make a good point.

What qualifications are out there to prepare one to be a POTUS? Honest question.

While there is a difference between eligibility and qualifications, one can start with the U.S. Constitution (Article II, Section 1):
U.S. Constitution said:
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.
Beyond that, there are no minimum required qualifications. We've had generals, statesmen, lawyers, etc.

DenverPilot for POTUS!

No. Not only no but hell no.

I'd write him in. At least his opine are far more lucent than the current cast of characters and I'm pretty sure he isn't a criminal.

Babbling does seem to be a requirement, you have a point. Problem is, I can't lie that much.

I'd nominate Nate or Rich for SCOTUS.

I'd go with Rich.

Or Ted. Even as a dictator. As long as he lets me go flying I won't have to shoot him. Hahaha.

He knows where the bodies are hidden.

BOFH. Bzzzzt. Clunk. Send the next Appeasement Engineer. One that knows how to fix this equipment next time. You know better than to send the newbie to my data center.

And what bodies? I thought I used copious amounts of quicklime.

I can assure you there would not be restrictions on GA under my dictatorship.

-DC SFRA goes away
-AF1 becomes a Gulfstream, sell the 747
-NO USER FEES
-Attempts to close airports will be thwarted

Don't forget to sign into law the PBOR....;););)

That, elimination of the 3rd class medical for aircraft not requiring type ratings, and Part 91 rewrite.

Don't forget that, as dictator, EVERYONE in Congress is FIRED!

Throw is in a Part 23 Re-write and we can talk.

I would think any self-respecting pilot/dictator would just do away with the FAR's altogether. No?

David

I for one welcome our new overlord! :D

Not overlord, just a benevolent dictator. :)

My grandfather always said the most efficient form of government is a benevolent dictatorship, the hard part is finding someone who's benevolent. I save puppies in my free time, so that should qualify me.

Balance our budget, reduce our national debt, eliminate waste, support GA.

I would think any self-respecting pilot/dictator would just do away with the FAR's altogether. No?

No, I disagree with your suggestion. I think it's foolish to believe there is no value in any FAR. Parts 25 and 121 I think are overall decent and have helped to produce a safe product in the form of airline travel, and I don't believe the flying public wants to see the regulations that mandate airline safety go away. While overall they will do the right thing, penny pinchers must be watched.

Even in the small airplane world, there are reasonable regulations that exist. I believe it's reasonable to require a medical for people flying passengers for hire, and also reasonable that 135 operators be held to a higher standard than 91. However, 135 needs an overhaul to make it easier to obtain and maintain a certificate.

The key is simplifying the regulations to be reasonable and appropriate to the operation.

Sounds like fun.

I'll run as "Matthew for Monarch".

I will be a kind and benevolent King.

One recommendation: A do-over on all Federal regulations. Declare all of them to have an expiration date so they must always be re-justified to be renewed.

Okay riddle me this bat men - can a natural born citizen be born on foreign soil?

Good thought. Should also apply at the state and local levels.

Could be worse. Throughout much of history the only qualification to run things was that you were related to the person who ran things before you. I like our system way better.

:nono: The great and powerful Ted DuPuis may not find that amusing. You know what happens when you get on a dictator's bad side.

The Constitution (and thus free speech) are protected under my dictatorship. :)

You should join the Libertarians then. We're plotting to take over the government and force it to leave people alone.

As dictator, my party affiliation is the Ted party. :)

Then you'd have a mission capability problem. AF1 is more than just transportation it's also a flying Federal Disaster Command post that can remain aloft indefinitely (at least in theory - or until the people need food, whichever comes first).

Just need a parent to vouch for you.

Probably that Commander In Chief part....and all the other stuff the Constitution says he's supposed to do as 1/3 of a trilateral government.

Nothing saying you can't outfit a G650 with aerial refueling and a number of other features.

Or, change the mission requirements.

I think Trump is Denny Crane... Close enough? LOL

I watch that in syndication. I don't always agree with the opinions of the show, but they do a great job in making their point.

And I work with a girl named Amy Crane. Not a day goes by where I see her and don't think "Amy Craaaane" in the Denny Crane tone.

As far as finding a replacement for Scalia goes, it's wishful thinking to hope for someone impartial to interpret the law. My son is in a debate class in HS. He's doing extraordinary in the class because he and his debate partner take the unpopular or untrue points every time. They prefer it that way. For example, if the topic was "Should the next Supreme Court Justice be unbiased?" they would take the position that no, the president should select someone biased toward his views. The gist of their reasoning is that it's fun to play devil's advocate with facts and advocate for ideas that run counter to popular beliefs.

I'd like Scalia's replacement to be like that. To look at the facts and be able to support a viewpoint that opposes your personal feelings or ideology.
