Gaston's web cam?

So is anyone gonna put up a live webcam for us poor saps who don't get to go??

Kent and I can using the cams on our Macbook Pros. It would be nice if we had an external cam. I only have a USB Intel PC Camera that doesn't work on a mac....ahh I could maybe get it working in Parallels.

I'll have to find some software...what Nick uses.

I would be nice if someone actually broadcast with audio. I found a way to do it with Windows Media Encoder. Not sure how easy it is to do with Macs, but if its doable, that's my request.

It is easy. What's not so easy with no time left is setting up the web site.

How about it Mr. Windows?

If you set up a web site that will display files FTP'ed to it, I'll set up video segments and stills and the sending.

If I can find some basic javascript or PHP that cna do I can host it.

I hope it's not a heavy bandwidth load to make the stuff available. We shouldnt have too many clients.

We BETTER have bandwidth on the flight line.!

Only because you didn't call me "Mr. Windoze". :D
Check your email.

I'm not trying to bash macs here, honestly, just trying to give advice where I may be short on knowlege....

In windows, you can use Media Encoder and it hosts it on your computer. So someone only need to go to http://youripaddress:10600 or whatever, and it will stream from there.

If macs can do it (I'm sure they can) why not try something like that?

Looks good, Mike.

Well...as good as it can look :)

Got it!

Password is "squawk"

Yeah, you'll only see my fugly puss for now.

We should test the audio and chat.

I few brave souls stopped by.

The live java chat is the same as here on POA.

Audio and video live feeds work pretty well. I'll set up an external microphone, too.

We're gonna be able to TALK to you folks that can't make it, LIVE and you can chat back to us.

We also can record and save the feed.

B)

It won't work any more; just rejects my psw. Not on-line any more? I am doin' it from a different 'puter, but I want this one to work so CJane can tune in and see me (shock!) talking about airplanes.

If the password didn't work, my apologies.

I updated and it scrambled the password.

I'm gonna remove the password.

OK, folks!

If you're not going to Gastons and want to chat with us LIVE, go to http://www.ustream.tv/sign-up-step-1 and create an account for yourself so we can see your name in the chat.

Again the URl for the Live show is http://www.ustream.tv/channel/gastons-fly-in-2007

Techies:

1) We need all the help we can get to get connectivity on the flight line. Jason (FlyNE) is bringing some ww-drt hacked Linksys APs so we should be able to relay WiFi. If anybody has a WiFi AP with beam antenna it'll help. I will bring my AP but we know from last year that it couldn't get out the flight line. Grant said he'd bring a beam antenna.

2) We could use other laptops as hosts. I have my Intel USB, which I haven't tested yet, but if you have a firewire or USB webcam or a digital video camera that can work as a web cam, we'll use yours to shoot the Gaston's fight line. (Streaming is so easy we could have more than one feed. heh. Is the bandwidth can support it.)

Kent may be a geek, but Kent is not going to Gaston's to participate in a geek-fest. Kent is so freaked out by the other geeks he may not even bring his mighty 17" MacBook Pro.

THANK GOD

friday at departure, the cell phone goes off. it comes back on sunday at arrival.

IMHO, the computers are to be used for only 3 things:
1) checking weather
2) playing movies for movie nights
3) posting to PoA (including webcam)
:)

Hey, this is a great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing the live updates since I won't make it there myself. Maybe next year... after I get my license. :)

Hey, Grant! If you have a camera on your laptop and it looks like you're gonna get in before me Friday, give me a call and I'll walk you through "hosting a show."

I actually have THREE cameras plus the one built in iSight. I have 2 for anybody who wants to join the fun with a Windows XP laptop. One sorta works for me but not with the show site, cause I can't get the flash thing to stop using my iSight.

Thanks for putting this up, Mike. I couldn't create an account (in Firefox, or IE). The sign up page doesn't do anything when I click the Next Step button at the bottom of the page, but my JScript console does mention Javascript errors on the page. I know it's not your problem, but I'll have to login as guest for now.

Anybody else have trouble creating an account?

It worked for me with the new Firefox/Mac. What DOESN'T work BTW, is AOPA's new Cold Fusion wizardry. I had to come in with Safari to see pages.

Nick figured out that you can use the link to the IRC server and "/nick MYName." There's also an IRC channel.

If we don't have audio on my computer can we type the conversation or is all audio and video

The audio and video come from the other side. You type. They talk (and type,)

Only video I have is an old serial-port camera. I thought Leslie might have a USB one around somewhere, but we couldn't find it. None of our laptops have a serial port, so it won't help.

We're looking to launch somewhere around 1:00 PM to allow the front go get past AR. We'll be interested in hearing ride reports to select the smoothest altitude.

Diana, are we doing the restaurant Friday, or BBQ?

That's a good question. :D

I still don't know who is in charge of the BBQ. :dunno:

Since several said they were doing BBQ instead of eating in the restaurant on Friday, I made a WAG and told Gaston's to put us down for 20 in the east dining room. If people will let me know, I'll have a better idea. There are several people who haven't even signed up on Chip's site, so it has been rather hard to figure out what people are doing.

I'll be right behind, or ahead of you.

I think it's Nick in charge of BBQ. It should still be Friday night.

I'll help with it, though I'm NO ANDREW! Nick will find out when he gets out of the hot tub.

Alright this is not working for me. I set up an account but when ever I click on the live tab and type in the name of the show I don't get anything. If I just go to mikes link there is a chat screen that logs me in as guest with a number and no video

As soon as Miike landed he was throwing brats on the grill with the hungry horde waiting with empty paper plates (well, Nick seared a few dogs for the non-selective before the brats arrived), then the crowd waited for the Iowa C-140 to make a night trap, so the electronic setup is a back burner project right now.

Tomorrow promises to be much more amenable flying weather. Maybe the uplink will be in service before noon.

I doubt it is up yet, Mike isn't there and I am sure no one has had time to get it going

The Gaston's tech crew will get to work first thing in the morning...as soon I can get the plane unpacked.. should be about 6 PM. :goofy:

As I feared, the net bandwidth at Gaston's not optimum. There's a lotta latency. I suspect all the rooms and cabins share a 1.5mbps DSL. 1t should be OK for a flash stream, We're gonna try.

Jason is the Wifi wiz! GO JASON!

Heh. I tested at broadbandreprts. 317/15Kbps. About 2 ISDNs worth except ISDN is symmetric.
