Post Falls, ID
...
A good friend and his wife from my Navy days retired to Post Falls in the early 90's ... I've promised myself that once of these days I'm going to get up there to visit them ...

Most intriguing place name on anyone's list.
Dangling Rope, UT - the story about the name isn't actually intriguing, but the place is. It is a small government settlement on the shores of Lake Powell, surrounded by cliffs, accessible only by helicopter or a 1 1/2 hour trip by boat. It's a fuel and food stop for the tourist boaters in the summer.

The rope was an old rope seen hanging over one of the cliffs for years by river runners before the river was impounded to make the lake. A river runner's landmark, so to speak.

That sounds similar to Smith & Tangier Islands (MD and VA, respectively) in the Chesapeake Bay. The only way to get to Smith Island is by boat. Tangier has a small airport. I've never been there, but according to AirNav, there is one heck of a bump at one end of the runway.

Anyway, these two islands are pretty isolated - kids have to take the mail boat to school, all supplies have to be boated in, etc. A while back, someone did a study of the islands' accents and concludes that it the closest thing to Old English that still exists. When you listen to the people who grew up there talk, it sounds almost Scottish.

Well, I've - residentially - never made it out of Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire; and it looks as though I won't. The last stop shall occur with a closing to be done on June 01.

There's, certainly, no accommodation for a landing strip, but it'll be considerably closer to my hangar, and very close to the seashore(not visible from the house), Reid State Park(wide beach at the ocean), Robinhood Marina, and it's about the first settlement in Maine(1605). Anyone want to buy a nice house in Topsham? I won't be needing two. It's going to be a busy summer, getting rid of those leaves and the branches downed by the Patriots Day storm.

HR

Oh, three PoA have been guests in Topsham. Georgetown shall await any other PoA, where there's even more rooms.

Geographically I've led a pretty boring life compared to some of you.

Columbus, GA
Albany, GA
Ft Lauderdale, FL
Dunwoody, GA
Marietta, GA

I would love to leave this area if I could convince my wife.

mine is very boring, basically starting from North Indiana and slowly moving to Central Indiana

South Bend, IN (born - college)
Muncie, IN (college and a few years after)
Anderson, IN (get married and bought a house)
Greenfield, IN (bought our 2nd house and had kids)

Good thread. Let's see....

First 27 years in California, with one year elsewhere:
middle of nowhere
Santa Monica
San Bruno
Burlingame
Santa Cruz
Lund, Sweden
Santa Cruz

Then the escape from the ever-crowded home state:
Chicago, IL
Boulder, CO
Tucson, AZ
Pomerene, AZ
Moscow, ID
Viola, ID

Hm. It seems to me I've lived more places, but that's it. I've spent a lot of time traveling around the world, but the only place I actually lived overseas is Lund (although I was practically commuting to London for awhile). My life has been more boring that it seemed, residence-wise.

Since it's not yet listed... is Florida in the future? Albany just doesn't cut it for covering all four corners of the nation. :)

Don't think I can convince Hubby to retire there. Kids are all west of the Mississippi, so we are thinking of going back to Oklahoma or west.

Albany doesn't cut it period. I spent 13 agonizing years there including high school. I don't miss it.

I realized today as I was posting about Lambert's Cafe, with a location listed for me as central Alaska, that it seemed a bit unbelievable. Got me thinking about all the places I have had the good fortune to live in my life. How 'bout you?

Qualify "Lived"... how long and what makes official. Also, I've spent around 1/3 of my life at sea, how do I count that time, by the hailing port of the vessel, or "At Sea"?

You don't :D

Seriously, whatever you want to tell us, Henning, we aren't fact checking, but perhaps travels can be in another poll some other time. I myself used the criteria of I or my family having a mailing address and a residence of some sort.

I've seen some fascinating posts. I thought since we are all such rich pilot types that I would see more foreign locations ;)

No slick, black stuff with a name like that? :)

Well..yeah, lots of oil pumps around too... had a very angry cow (with horns!) chase me up one of those things once (I was trying to rope her calf...she didn't like that) so I must have a mental block about those things. :D
