Flying in sandals..

Jesus flew in sandels and if it is good enough for him...

If it's cold out, I will put them in the microwave for about a minute to a minute and a half (no more) before I head outside.
Erm, what? You microwave your sandals?

I just landed. I wore these specifically so I could post this on this thread.

I got some looks. It was awesome.

Wow, that's embarrassing. If there's one thing this country needs, it's harsh penalties for sandal/socks violators. Obama, please help.

If you survive and have to hump it out over rugged terrain you may like to have sturdy shoes.
Like I said though, if you are going down in rugged terrain you have bigger problems than choice of footwear.

Maybe you could start a class action suit, get one of those 888 numbers like the mesothelioma jokers.

I was going to wear my normal sandals but then I remembered how cool socks look w. sandals. Than I saw those babies!

Yeah, I think it's pretty common to toss a pair of shoes in the nuker for a minute to warm em up before you throw them on. I think lots of people do that.

I honestly have never heard of that, and I just googled microwaving sandals and found nothing. Are you pulling my leg?

Yep. I do the same thing. I actually keep a couple sockfuls of rice that I put inside the shoe to help with thermal transfer. But make sure you don't do it with the Nike air or gels.

Interesting, I have never heard the rice method.

Cooked or uncooked?

In the summer do you put shoes in the fridge? I mean who doesn't like cool feet when its hot out?

Deep Freeze. That is mostly to keep odor down. They don't stay cold long at all.

Well, at least you weren't wearing black socks.....
Did you at least wear a plaid shirt and plaid shorts pulled up to your armpits..???:lol::lol:

I never fly wearing flip flops. I want footwear that I can rescue passengers or run away from a burning plane fast!

But why add to large problems by introducing small ones? ;)
It's all relative, friend. What if you have sweaty feet? That's a problem too. Arguably you could be so distracted by your sweaty feet that you lose control or CFIT.

I can't remember the last time I flew wearing anything BUT sandals!

Well, okay -- I wear shorts and a t-shirt, too. ;)

Sure, if you wanna call that flying. :D

Have you been talking to my wife? :D

Just an FYI: if you are flying in Plus One (I can't remember if you are a member or not), open-toed sandals are not allowed for flying club planes.

Stupid rules like this are one reason I enjoy no longer being in a club.

Not saying closed-toed shoes are a bad idea, but it should be the pilots choice, not yet another red-tape rule....

Do you own shoes? I thought you had to rent them on the rare occasion you needed them (was expecting to see you wearing sandals with the tuxedo).

I'm glad some of you have such pressing problems that you need to contemplate what footwear to choose for your flight.

Late to the thread...

I wear flip flops most of the year. About 9 months out of the year. (Of course have them on right now!) I hate, hate, hate driving cars in flip flops. What I do is slip them off and go bare foot. I have to admit that I have never flown bare foot, or in flip flops. Given my experiences in the car, I will never fly in flip flops, but I will likely try bare foot after reading this here!

I don't know why I haven't yet?!!

I can not stand flip flops. I hate having something wedged between my toes.
Tevas: Yep.
Keens: Yep.
Flip flops? Nuh-uh.

Just curious what you guys think about this. Recently had a discussion with a friend about it and I'm curious to see what the "general consensus" amongst the aviation community at large thinks..

Flying in sandals.. A terrible idea?

I typically kick off my flip flops when I sit down. Is it a terrible idea idea? Probably, but if the weather is good I'll take my chances. When I fly pipeline or Ag, I wear a pair of boots, outside of that I'm either barefoot or in socks depending on the weather. If it's really cold, I'll keep my shoes on.

Everyone has their own opinion. A general consensus? No.

So.... which one is the flip, and which one is the flop? :dunno:

Inquiring minds wish to know.....

I have no idea where those socks came from but I am not gonna lie.
I have worn them to sleep at night when it is cold out. They are comfortable.
I am pretty sure they are for the ladies. They should make some in camouflage or black w/ skulls on them or something. You know just for the self respect part.

I have no problem wearing socks with sandals, although if you step in puddles they stay wet longer than if you don't wear socks.... :p

No one ever accused me of being fashionable.

I can't wear sandals and especially flip-flops. They feel incredibly uncomfortable to me. I don't own any even though Ive had a few girlfriends try to 'persuade' me by buying pairs over the years. So I always wear real shoes - sometimes I'll kick them off when I'm in the plane and settled into cruise. At that point, the AP is really flying the plane anyway so what does it matter what I'm wearing. I can always put them back on pretty quick if anything happens. Nice to have a solid performing air conditioner in the plane though. I'm never hot any while flying any more. Even on 100 degree days, I can cool the cabin to 70 degrees pretty quickly.
