iBazinga!
Went and visited my plane last night as it is completing its annual inspection. So happy all is going well and there are no surprises. YEAH! I had some stuff done this annual that I wanted to accomplish, I had new oil hoses installed and new baffle seal and now the firewall forward overhaul is complete. I had them do a SB1006 and they found no corrosion, but they did find a small gasket leak in the left tank. There was no outward sign of a leak but we caught it early before any damage.

I had a new strobe PS installed and a split switch for the beacon and wing tip strobes installed. This also got rid of the strobe noise getting into my audio system. If all goes well I will have enough pennies saved up to get it painted this summer and it will be like a new plane.

Now I just have to be home long enough to be able to fly her. I will have logged no hours in January at all.

Sounds like a great annual, Scott. Does splitting the beacon and strobes require a 337 ? What is a SB1006 entail ?

Let's not talk about not logging hours. :-(

I don't think so about the 337 for the strobe split. We just installed a new power supply and the split switch. There was already paperwork for installing the strobes.

The SB1006, requires that both fuel tanks be removed and that the strut be inspected and treated with anti-corrosion material.

I'm off to a slow start too. My bird is still waiting for a part to come out of annual. No big deal, just waiting for it. Still, I'm grounded. Time to rent, I guess.

I'm not complaining -- too many horror stories out there for me to complain about a little delay on something easily remedied. I'd just rather be flying.

It's the spare Scott not strut.:D I hope they also replaced the fuel and vent hoses. Also a good time to replace those old rusting steel screws with structural SS screws. I put a dab of anti-seize on the screws before install. Makes it easier to take out next time

Yep I had a leaking hose that we caught real early and all new SS screws. I was just looking over everything that was done and this time there was no surprises. Everything that was replaced was stuff I was expecting to have done. The best part is I put a new battery in and the plane starts really easy now!

Just got the bill for the annual. Excluding an antenna problem that I was having just prior to the annual the cost was around $3,300. The SB1006 was $300, the new PS was $484, and $140 for the new battery. So take off another $850 for stuff I wanted done and that is about $2450. Not too bad considering that last year I spent lots of $$$$ because of the mandatory top overhaul.

Sounds about right Scott... We usually pay ~3000 and change every year for the Archers at the home drome, though we've gotten an annual from the same co. at a different field for a hair under $2,000 and we've gotten a couple of annuals from a completely different shop for under $1,000. Unfortunately, the first time we did that the next 100-hour cost over $2,000. :(

mine cost $125. mechanic was nice and let me pay it over a couple months to spread it out

LOL Just as I am getting the courage up to look at planes again to buy, you come in with that great comment

you made out great on 1006. the kit runs almost 200 bucks for my 180 and over on the cherokee board they're saying the mechs all want 6-10hrs. i got lucky. i found a local guy that will help me do owner assisted annuals and maintenance. i recently retired so i have nothing but time and have been doing a lot of upgrades and he saves me a ton of money. i do the work, he inspects and does the paper work. my copper cable upgrade ran me 190 for the cables, a couple days work and 50bucks for his efforts. thats a pretty nice deal. i'd encourage anybody with any tinkering ability to go the owner assisted route. i am saving a fortune in maintenance and have learned a lot about my baby. and its fun! imho, tc

I hope you didn't use copper based anti-sieze:eek: . Always use Dura Lac or other non metalic compounds when putting Stainless into Aluminum.

I just got my C172 out of annual today, it was my first with this airplane. My last annual was on my C150 and it cost me $3K, so I was not looking forward to this one. The only thing I new that need attention was the nose strut. Well I got the bill and about passed out.

$690.00 :D I can live with an annual like that.

Oh yeah, can't we all...

Mine's coming in May

My is due in April. I know I need a ELT battery. My IA is a friend he will do a $100 owner assisted. I do plan on rotating my tires at the same time. May be a new rear tire. I also plan on adding shoulder harneses so he can do the paper work at the same time. I have to get it good and geased up for Gaston's.

My 2005 annual was $5500... But the plane had been used for flight training for the previous 4 years... So I expected it to be high. Plus there were a couple of big ticket items needing replacing (Accumulator bottle, etc) It was still higher than expected, especially since I had done much of the work.

For 2006, with only myself and my partner flying it, that amount dropped to $3300. (this included new tires/tubes all around) The mechanics did 100%, since I was here in Texas. So I view that as a significant victory!

Since purchasing the aircraft in Aug, 2001, I have been involved in almost every 50 hr, 100 hr, and annual, until now... I have probably saved myself close to $10K over the past 5 years...
