The wife booked a trip to Mexico, Cancun, and I was thinking of renting a plane while there. Is it possible? Do you need a Mexican licence to rent?

You'd need to just rent with an instructor. I looked into this a while back, and DGAC regs are too much work to bother with. I have some contact for a pane and instructor in Yucatan, if I can find it, I'll post.

I've had pane in the yucatan but it Customs induced..

We flew a load of tools, parts, and equipment from Houston to Merida and then promptly watched things set for a week. Not good with $50,000/day waiting on things...it was better than Mexico City where things set for months.

Thanks for the reply Smooth, I was starting to think the same thing regarding getting an instrucor to ride along. My Spanish is pretty much non-existant anyway.

..... I suspect they spoke Spanish all the time except when they were in the states.;)

Well.. thats better then the 20 million + illegal maxicans here that speak Spanish 99% of the time.....
The other 1% of the time it is broken English for getting food stamps, welfare, free housing, free medical, free education, free cell phones, etc, etc, etc,,, .:nono:

Aw never mind,................. I need therapy..... I am going flying..

It took me just a bit to get used to the English controllers spoke when I flew from Sanford Florida to Cozumel, then New Orleans. I've gone a couple times. They advise not to use Spanish unless highly fluent; hear it all the time. If you speak English, they will. Good Spanish will be answered in Spanish from what I heard.

Best,

Dave
