It does makes you wonder what they were thinking when they were doing most of those modifications on existing planes. It had to make sense to someone at the time.

With the exception of some of the European/Russian designs I'v seen several of those at various airshows around the country. The "green" 747 is Boeing's new Large Cargo Freighter (LCF). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747_Large_Cargo_Freighter The first slide is of the Boeing Global Hawk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Hawk I got a good look at one close up at an Edwards AFB open house a few years ago. It's deceiving large. Several of the other mods on the military aircraft are for remote sensing. Several of the civilian aircraft have appeared at Airventure over the years.
