How big or small a deal is it to update the fuel selector on an old Arrow to a “modern” one with detents. Did some night currency last week and realized I never want to be poking about down there with a flashlight after dark.

Cost of the new valve and about 3 hours of labor. Not a very big deal. Most of it is taking off the side panel and reinstalling it

Thank you that's what I'd hoped.

The old style valves should have detents too. If yours doesn’t, that would be a motivator for me to replace it.

There are ADs for this on other Piper airframes with similar valves.

The old valve should have detents as well, but they’ve probably worn out. The modern valve is around $450 shipped (Air Parts West is who I order the valve from). I’d recommend having the service kit done to add the off lockout at the same time. You’ll probably want to go to the used market for those parts through, Piper wants stupid money for it.

Good advice. If this one has detents they've long since worn smooth.
