What's the current status of the push in congress to get the Driver's license medical passed?

Any new word from the FAA on their position and response to the petition?

Thought we just covered this in a recent thread.

I spoke with Bruce just the other day - he laughed when I asked him. ANd said not to hold my breath...

Bills moving through Congress, and the FAA is supposed to make some sort of announcement at Oshkosh. Don't need to hold your breath when you can read the writing on the wall.

What does the writing say? :dunno:

Bi...the FAA is supposed to make some sort of announcement at Oshkosh.
I believe I said that the cognizant office in Flight Standards wants to have something ready to announce at Oshkosh. That's not the same as "supposed to make some sort of announcement".

Agreed. Until an NPRM hits the Federal Register, it's all just speculation and/or hope.

"Supposed" in its most general sense. Didn't mean to misquote you. There is quite of bit of momentum going our way, hopefully enough to institute some much needed reform.

In today's news, the FAA has approved the use of drivers license instead of a Third Class Medical exam.
In other news, 50 states and all the territories now require an FAA Class 2 Medical in order to get your drivers license.

April 1 was a long time ago.

I've been doing DOT exams for years. Recently I had to become certified to give these. This required 2 hour test at approved test site (2 hours) away from where I live. I had to take online course and pass all the modules and print off the results before I could even begin to register for the test.

These exams are far more involved then a Class 3 exam I've been through. It would be so nice to tweak this process a little and follow the same process for flying (3rd Class).

I too have little confidence in the FAA and even less in the Dept of Transportation, well maybe not but it's pretty low also. I've entertained becoming AME but I get so tired of the paperwork/regs and headaches.

Not holding my breath. I scheduled my class 3 for the middle of June. The way my luck runs, the FAA will cancel then the day after the check clears the bank.

I've got my 3rd class, so not holding my breath. Simply conveying what I was told by Bruce. Take it for what it is, or isn't.

I received an e-mail from one of my Senators today. I had written to him earlier, and he was letting me know he had signed on as a sponsor in the Senate. He IS up for reelection this year, by the way :).
