Piper wing spar eddy current testing

There were three accident aircraft, the ERAU Arrow as you said that is probably the most well known case, and two Archers. One of those spent a lot of time flying pipelines. The other was flown VFR into a thunderstorm so that one doesn’t really count in my opinion but the post crash analysis did...

Piper wing spar eddy current testing

Your opinion means a lot! Do you know what relevance the Indonesia purchase or Piper had to do with weak wing spars? Did they start making those spars overseas during that time using bad materials or standards?

    Very insightful. Thank you.

Piper wing spar eddy current testing

What have been your experiences on this matter to have that opinion? I’m trying to learn as much as I can about it before hiring out a NDT guy and would like to know what you know. I did get a quote from a company who is experienced in the test and will come to my hangar for $2000, but I have...

Piper wing spar eddy current testing

Thought my PA-28 was no damage history. Recent log scrutiny reveals wing damage repaired 40 years ago (skins, gear strut, and prop). I’m guessing hard landing or runway excursion. I’m well away from the factored hours limit for mandatory wing spar AD, but my recent research turned up some...

    Foreflight checklist issue

I created a custom checklist for my specific airplane that I used for almost a year without issue. However, a few months ago I tried to use the checklist on my iPad, but I got a gray box with a circle and the word Loading. Same thing happens on my iPhone. Powering off both devices did nothing. A...

First class medical after a seizure

Yes. That is the definition of an unprovoked seizure, the last category in the AME’s decision matrix that TCABM linked above.

First class medical after a seizure

Dude you’ll get certified. Go update your EEG and have all the records handy as outlined in the matrix. Your AME will defer, records go to the FAA, and they’ll either give you the SI or ask for more records. Give them whatever they want promptly with no back talk. You’ll eventually get the SI...

    ATC asks me for winds.

I think I’ll skip the GAD13 route- unless there is another really good reason to have it- and just use the DALT/TAS/Winds feature on the 750. Glad to know I don’t have to put further graphite on the little wind calculator on the E6B flip side. :) Thanks to everyone for the education.

    ATC asks me for winds.

I actually thought that the first time it happened, but then the other guy was also queried and answered. Also I figured he would have said “Say heading” if he wanted me to correct.

    ATC asks me for winds.

The top G5 in this photo shows TAS and OAT. The bottom HSI appears to show wind direction and velocity in the top left corner. My units have none of those and I can’t find how to activate them in any of the menu options. My airplane has a temperature probe on the belly but I think that is for...

    ATC asks me for winds.

On two occasions now I’ve had ATC ask me for winds in cruise. I felt stupid and told them I didn’t know. I mean, I could tell them if I had a head or tail, or what general direction the wind was coming from, but that was about it. They said “Roger,” then asked another pilot who could promptly...

    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

Were you having trouble before the update? Cool. I have the G5 but I’m wondering if maybe I should postpone the update like MooneyDriver implied. Currently my AP hasn’t given me any problems other than having a hard time managing pitch and altitude in bumpy weather but I imagine that is...

    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

That link looks like it’s for the G5. Is it the right one? I’ve scheduled a trip to my avionics guy in 2 days to get the autopilot update. Am I wasting my time?

    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Mine hasn’t had any issues either. Even if it starts to have uncommanded trim I would think such a thing should be easy to notice and so you hold down the AP disconnect button while you pull the breaker. It doesn’t seem like a life threatening failure to me.

    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

Here’s a quick poll. Who here has that autopilot and who has actually INOP’ed it? I hand flew 2 hours last weekend and didn’t realize how much I love my AP until then.

    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

The email I got said expect software update Q4 2022. Four days left and one of them is New Year’s Eve. Anyone for breath-holding?

Pilot goes DAD on air-dropping passengers

I thought about getting into this but apparently I would have to buy a pretty powerful macro lens for my phone.

Medical Error: AME Directed Me to Answer "No" on Question 18W. Need Advice!

Write a letter to the appropriate Clerk of Courts outlining the situation and requesting records. Clerk will write back saying there are no records. Send the FAA copies of all correspondence. They won’t care anyway, they just have bureaucratic boxes they need to check off on their legal instruments.

    Throttle quadrant overlay

I’m resurrecting this because I’d like to commission someone to fab me this piece. Aluminum, thick plastic, doesn’t matter as long as my hand won’t fall through it. If it has the labeling then great, otherwise I could just buy an overlay and have it glued or riveted on. The piece I currently...
