I'm having a really hard time understanding the wording in 61.39.1. I took my written exam before starting my flight training and due to some complications, (airport renovation, change in FBO, no access to rental for a year, money, life) I am just now finishing up my training. I took the written on April 15, 2013 and since I don't have a law degree, I cannot figure out if my written expires April 15, 2015 or April 30, 2015. Lesson learned for anybody who is thinking about starting on a private pilot certificate, don't be in a rush to take your written. I used the Gleim online ground school and only missed two questions, but I'm now having to go back and relearn all of the information that I had mastered two years ago.

The operative words are "calendar month". That applies to this as well as just about every other recent experience or inspection requirement (other than 61.57 landing and 91.177 VOR check requirements, which are still 90/30 days).
