I have heard that this is an nice outing. I've been invited; however, I am never very willing to attend fly-ins that have lots of folks from the general public even though the organizers rope-off the display aircraft. The reasons have been covered in another thread. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/non-flying-public-and-airplanes.110881/
There are minimal people from the general public, and any that are there are specifically invited by the pilot attendees. But with the way the weather is looking I don't think that's going to be an issue.
I have given up my hotel room - 48 hour cancellation policy at the hotel. Still have the option to come if weather improves, but not looking promising at the moment. Next year....
Not only do I have a professional commitment, but I just dropped off the aircraft to the avionics people so they can fix what they bolluxed. However, Adam is the soul of generosity and organizes a truly wonderful event. I wish I could come.
I'll take the blame for the weather. I asked my partner if he was interested in coming to it, and he's the worst weather magnet ever. Seriously, last long trip I took with him, Houston was in a drought. Once we got there? Tropical storm. And he once got stranded with our former boss for three days due to weather, which included a tornado. So I can see how a mere invitation could bring rain... Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to make it. I already can't bring my family because my wife has a gig on Saturday.
Adam and I talked on the phone this morning he is busy but the plug is pulled. There is no fly in for Saturday.
Hey folks due to the horrible Forecast, 98% chance of precip and 200 to 400' ceilings the FlyBQ AND ALL ASSCOCIATED EVENTS have been CANCELLED. Only the 2nd time we had to do this in probably 16 years but no other choice given the forecast
Of course, then there were the years where we sat at your house eating cheesesteaks and looking up at the stars through the forecast 200-foot overcast... Oh wait. LOL Bummed, even though I probably wasn't going to make it this year! I hope we can all come next year.
Not to mention the (almost) need for hip waders to get down into the grassy area where the BBQ is usually held.... really not a surprise - a couple more inches of rain to fall between now and Sat PM.
Bummed we missed everyone but the Wx really was horrible. 200' ceilings and rain all day AND COLD blech
