Windwood is BACK! OCTOBER 7-9, 2016
    WV62 Davis WV

The 10th is Columbus day so we can have a cushion day! Best fall foliage anywhere! Once we know who is in I can tell them how many rooms to hold and reserve the large game room upstairs! Always a good time.

For those that haven't been there Motel and Restaurant practically on the runway, Rooms ran about $65-75 per night. And Ameilas Restaurant has amazing food at reasonable prices.

Many of the photos on the site are from past POA Flyins!

So who is coming to Windwood?

We can pencil it in but the dates may run up against our Branson Mo trip for BACFest. We are planning to extend and visit Sandra Boggs in Texas then a stop over in New Orleans.

If you do that you might want to go to Gastons instead. I think they are doing it the week before.

Yea mainly a save the date thing. We ran into issues with the last one planning to late. time creeps up on ya. Ted and I were talking last week and talking about Windwood and it sort of convinced me to put it out there.

This is a great event. Really too far for us with the kids at this point, but I encourage anyone interested to attend. A beautiful location and a great facility.

The week AFTER! I wonder if we can make it to Windwood, TOO.

For those that haven't been there before, what's there to do??

It's been a few years since I went, but It's a lot like Gaston's in terms of what the gathering is like. Hang out with other pilots, fly airplanes, eat food. Go on hikes (very scenic). The restaurant and rooms are reasonably priced, a paved runway, and the owner loves having pilots fly in.

They will after the next POA flyIn LOL! Actually that page is the beauty of Windwood. Back in 2010 or 11. Folks were griping about Gastons because it was too hot & humid food was mediocre and over priced plus if you got weathered out you lost your $. So Bruce got me searching with a typical if you find it people will come statement. We found Windwood and the owner, a pilot, put up that banner, hosted us at a cocktail party at his home called the "Lost Hangar" and generally treated us like Royalty. One year the Wx really crapped out and many of us could not make it and he refunded lots of deposits without a question. So while the website may be old thats kind of the beauty of the place.

And the Brew Pub in town is a plus too:yes:

I just booked a room, but they weren't expecting the call yet. @AdamZ needs to call them to set up the official event details.

This will be @Lady Red and my first visit there.

Or one long fly-in/fly-out that spans two weekends. That's what I'm doing with my time.

We're still hoping to make this. The plane will hopefully be done with its annual by then.

I have not heard anything back from Joe who last I heard still owns the place. Not looking very promising. Unusual because they have always been very proactive and helpful.

hhhmmm, yeah, I'm kinda interested in this as well. October in the mountains sounds like a great time to get a roaring campfire going.

Ok Folks here is the Dealio, Due to a communication glitch between me and the facility we are going to put off the Windwood Flyin to another date. I spoke with Troy this morning and we both agree that it is best. The folks at Windwood were more than gracious about this and are eager to have POA back. Just a note that Windwood Flyin Resort is a beautiful place in a beautiful area so if you still would like to go I encourage you to do so even without the flyin.I'll make sure we have things set up a bit firmer for next time.
