Dear Walter:
I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in the bedroom with a neighbor lady making mad passionate love to her. I am 32, my husband is 34 and we have been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he tried to make out that he went into the back yard and heard a lady scream, had come to her rescue but found her unconscious. He'd carried the woman back to our house, laid her in bed, and began CPR. When she awoke she immediately began thanking him and kissing him and he was attempting to break free when I came back. But when I asked him why neither of them had any clothes on, he broke down and admitted that he'd been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. I don't feel I can get through to him anymore.

Can you please help?

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sheila Usk

Dear Sheila:
A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum tubes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber. I hope this helps.
Walter

Before checking the fuel lines it could also be related to the distributor rotor. I would at least visually inspect that first as it is very easy to do. There also was no mention of whether or not the ALT light had come on. This could be a bad alternator and the ignition system had just been running off of battery power until the battery went dead.

probably should make sure that there is actually gas in the tank first.

It's time for a change. Leave the husband for a talented mechanic.

Good grief, guys.. I can't believe we're so dense not to see the REAL problem in this lady's life. She obviously has some serious issues to deal with in her life, and the fuel line is not her primary problem.

I think the lady is really asking for advice regarding her separation issues. Namely, the separation issue she has with leaving her car sitting on the side of the road unattended. At least use a phone to CALL the husband. Don't just leave the car sitting there on the side of the road and WALK back to the house. sheesh.. This lady has issues...

It may have been a cellular coverage issue. Perhaps she should have also noted which carrier she was using. Since there appears to be inadequate coverage where she is traveling she may also wish to look at changing carriers.

I think the real issue is that someone has to slap her around and tell her to stop driving a Dodge...er, pushing a Dodge.

It was probably a combination of her using a crappy cell phone (Motorola) on a crappy cell provider (T-Mobile). :D

A woman I know who read that story laughed at the idea of cars still having vacuum tubes and carburetors.

Wow, you guys are cold. What a bunch of chauvinists. Clearly the lady's problem is her dependance on her husband, so she should take a remedial class in auto repair as soon as possible.

hmmm none of the ladies have replies with their opinions, i wonder why...

Cause they don't know *%&$ about cars.
