Why it is important to look at the wind sock.

Winds might have been a hassle however from the look of it, the parachute opening toward the building was a major contributor to the problem.

How much control is there over which way the parachute will open when deployed? Most jump video's I've seen, the parachute opens in the direction that the jumper is facing.
 
BASE jumpers are idiots.
