Why do jets have windshield wipers?

Embraers small jets just use a "permemantly installed repellent coating". We touch them up with rain-x. Never felt like we had any visibility issues. Snow storms, hurricanes, it all flew off just fine.

Bugs hitting the windscreen? Yes.

Well, we do climb, and descend on occasion.
