What planes have you owned?

Hey Dave do you have picture of your plane i dont think i have ever seen a Cherokee 235.

I have a 140 and i love it!!!

Here are two.

David

My first was a 68 C-150H. I bought it in Georgia in Oct 1999 with a fresh annual & no radios for 10K. I added a whole IFR stack ($4k parts) under supervision. After 1 year & 600 hr, I sold it for $14k out of annual with a run out motor. I got my IR in this plane. 90 kts true burning auto fuel @ 6-7 gal an hr. Slow Slow Slow, but fun :)

Second was my Musketeer (64 A23) that I still have. I got it in Oct 2000 for $17K with only 1 radio working & a fresh Annual. Again I added a Stack, this time with a Moving map IFR GPS. This one I also flew for a year but I found a few issues at the first annual & it was out of service for a year while I did the top & some other things to it. I got my Commercial in this plane & a rented 172RG. 115 true on 100LL with 59 galons usable burning 9ph Big, roommy & stable.

11/01. I bought a 1/10th share in an 1980 Archer so I had something to fly. Funny thing it for the previous 5 years the plane never saw more then 110 hr a year with 10 members.... That didn't last long with me being a member. :)
I sold the share for what I paid for it a yr & 1/2 later. 125 kts true & hauls a bunch burning 100LL.

5/02... A friend of mine gave me a AA5 Traveler (Tiger with a 150hp motor) to care for. I offered a free tie down, but my friend insisted that the plane needed to fly. No Problem :) I keeped it up & got it through a couple of annuals & flew it a lot intill I got my 182. Great Fun Plane. I can't say enough about the Grummans so I won't even try. 105 kts over the ground burning Auto Fuel at a pace of 8.5 an hr

01/03 I bought my 59 C-182B which I still have. I had flown a few hundred hrs in the old straight tail 182s while I was flying Skydivers. There in nothing like having 5 200 = Lbs guys in a small plane & talking off from a 3000 ft runway with ease. That is what sold me on this plane. 130 kts over the ground burning Auto Fuel & it will go in & out of anywhere loaded with anything. It has a hefty flow of 12.5 an hr & I wish the tanks were a little larger. That is my only gripe. If I keep this plane I will add some more fuel somwhere & also add an auto pilot.

Thats a good looking bird. Whats the main difference between that and a 140. Just power? it looks a little bigger but not much.

Here is a closer picture of mine.

The 235 is a very nice plane. Like a Cherokee 180 on Steroids. It is the Piper equal to the 182. If Piper had seen fit to retract the gear it would have been difficult for me to choose the Cessna 182 RG over the Cherokee 235 RG. But they didn't, so my choice was easy. ;)

Oh ok i see, i actually have about 15 hrs in a 182, its my grandpas and i started in it, before we got the 140. It wasnt retractable though, still a fun plane to fly.

Mark,

They did but they also stretched and widened the aircraft cabin at the same time to create the Lance or Saratoga.

Well, there's always the Arrow, but I don't think you have the same room or payload as the C182RG.

Basically:
- a six cylinder 540 Lycoming
- 4 fuel tanks, 84 gals total
- larger interior
- 1400+ lbs. useful load
- 140 knots
- 15 gal/hr
- load it and go capability. W/B and loading are rarely an issue, even with full tanks.

One small clarification ... when he writes "larger interior" note that it is in the form of a slightly stretched fuselage compared to your 140. The width is the same. The 235 is the same airframe as a comparable year Warrior/Archer.

Ugliest plane at most fields I fly to........:blueplane:

Ah come on Keith. I've seen uglier. At least it get flown. More than you can say about a lot of nice looking planes.

Mark

1st plane, 1958 Beech Travel Air with turbos, loved that plane.

2nd Midget Mustang with a Lyc IO-360 which I did a good bit of modification to. Smokin' little plane, great commuter, only one seat though.

3rd G-164A Ag Cat, Paid for itself ($35,000 with Satloc) plus made me good money. Gave its life for mine, sold the parts for more than I payed for it.

1998 C-172 180HP Finished my private and I did my instrument training in this airplane.
I currently own a 1981 M20J/201. I bought this plane for the extra speed.

Iride I just bought your Barron. Any chance you have any pictures of it after the emergency landing?

I've seen lots of owners here. For those of us still shopping for our first planes, I'm curious what you've owned...and in what order? First plane, second plane, etc.? If you can remember how long you had it, add that, too, please.

Thanks!

1958 Piper Tri-Pacer - owned 1980 thru 2000

1966 Piper Cherokee 180 - 2000 to present

No, the thread is asking aircraft you've OWNED, not aircraft you've flown. :wink2: Hopefully you made a profit on each sale.

As Bud Davidson once said, "airplanes are to be accumulated"

I've owned two aircraft. 1985 Piper Malibu and Cessna 172N. I can choose between high and fast or low and slow now. Before my 20 years of no flying I had the use of my father's rental and sales fleet. I do miss the family C-310L.

1966 C172 - I loved that little airplane, but sold it last November.

1980 M20J/201 - bought it for the extra speed. I like it too, but miss my 172.

I owned a 1976 Cherokee 140. Had it on lease back at the flying club I instructed at. Did well until I moved on. I flew it cross country from Long Beach to Burlington, VT. Sold it to get by on 1st year pay at my current airline.

I was half owner of a 1956 Cessna 310. Flew it for almost 200 hrs. in a year and got out before the next annual was due. It was one way to build multi time.
