I hear about "Grimes" whenever I go looking at position lights, strobes, or beacons, as if they're the original supplier of those systems, but there doesn't seem to be a Grimes in business any more. Whelen seems to be the 800 lb gorilla in that market.

Did Whelen buy out Grimes sometime in the past? Did Grimes just quietly fold up and go away?

Maybe it's just a footnote in the annals of general aviation equipment manufacturers, but I was just curious what happened to a company that, at one time, was apparently the anti-collision lighting supplier for just about every small aircraft out there.

You might post this question on the cessna120-140 club forum. You can post there without being a club dues paying member. I fully expect there will be somewhere ready to right a thesis surrounding your question.

Grimes is now owned by Honeywell.

That was the tip I needed. I now see where they were bought out by AlliedSignal in the 90s before AS in turned merged with Honeywell. Thanks!
