Pulled up to the airport for my first 50+ XC lesson and found a whole bunch of GA aircraft. Evidently I stumbled on the monthly fly-in at Jimmy Stewart Airport (KIDI), so I thought I would post some pics...

I'm getting fueled up at the bottom right...

Reference photo #1: Someone needs to tell Flygirl that somebody stole her Archer and put another N number on it.

Nice Photos and a nice surprise on your XC lesson. Where are you based?

This is at KIDI. I've made it up there for a couple of them this summer. There is food for a small donation and usually some cool planes to see.

i flew a bunch in a 150 that looked just like that. it was 5219Q though.

There is a such thing as airplane porn, and it means just what you assumed.

Your chain has been yanked.

And more solidly so when you learn how to compute the remaining fuel in your tanks by using your tail number in the computation (/sideways_glace at Kimberly)

My wife refers to my "airplane-porn" whenever she sees me on my laptop reading the forums or looking at plane stuff. We were at her folks place a while back for dinner and she was talking about me looking at porn the other night while she was doing something, I got some interesting looks from them until she laughed and told them what she was talking about...

I know that white and yellow RV! Great pictures, how'd the flight go?

And damn...those Mentors...someday

Flight went great! Thanks for asking. Hit all my visual markers there and back, and had no issues with the strange airport with one exception: Mentioned that I was departing 12 when indeed I was departing 21 - and this airport has both. ouch!! I quickly clarified for the other aircraft in the area...

Guess I'll do it once more with my CFI and I need an hour or so under the hood, then he'll release me for my first solo XC. 16.5 hours to date and loving everything except the draw on the bank account... :D

I remember first time I went there. I was approaching from the SE expecting to set up for a left downwind to 21. Well, it turned out there was a guy doing x-wind practice on 30. And there was a plane on straight in for 21. This was on my long x-c and it was a bit nerve wracking until I found both planes.

This was also when I found out you really can navigate without a gps. I mistakenly put KDUB into the gps instead of KDUJ. Whatever I did to it, it wouldn't work. Tried shutting it off...nothing. I wound up flying I-80 after clearing Clarion and found Dubois pretty easily. Then, just followed the stacks and the sectional all the way back home. Turned out my mistake gave me a great real time lesson in pilotage.

Good luck with the x-c's. They will be a huge learning experience for you.

It happened to me too. And for the longest time I could not figure out how they know that fly-in is occuring. It was the greatest mystery of aviation.
