walking in a movement area

During an incentive flight in a C-17 to Edwards AFB, they told us in no uncertain terms to not go over the line on the apron or else we'd get M-16's to our head within seconds :hairraise:

I've had those M16s to my head at Eglin. Apparently, they don't like people without a line badge on checking out F15s :dunno:

The "Red Line" deals with restricted aircraft parking areas and has nothing to do with the movement area.

No No No
"The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only
There is no parking in the white zone"

Even more fun to wake up on the north shore of NAS North Island after having your city supplied mooring drag through a stormy night. You get Ma Deuce pointing at you and a UDT team going through the boat for explosives. After that though everything mellowed out real fast and they even towed us off at high tide.

My buddy was crew chief at Eglin, he forgot his badge escorting me out to the F15s, we walked right by the big red sign that said use of deadly force authorized. He said he knew the MPs and we were OK. He didn't and we weren't. They were a little jumpy too since a week prior some retired marine was trying to get to the BX without his card and just plowed through the gate. They put the guns down, one of my buddy's coworkers came over with a badge and we continued checking out the F15s.

Years ago, when I lived in Colorado Springs, you could drive up to the guard shack at NORAD. This was maybe 30 yrs ago. I took my wife (fiancee at the time) up there, to see the big hole in the side of the mountain. What we got to see were the three guards at the gate taking turns holding each other against the fence at gunpoint so the third could take pictures.

Our tax dollars at work!

I saw this sign today at 3T0 and thought of myself.

Yup, just ask permission. If you have no radio, you need to have a vehicle with appropriate lights(flashing yellow, or whatev they say).

As for the fine, it's muni and he might be right. The rules at public airports are onerous. If you want to read some real BS crap, pull up the rules for operating at Cleburne.

<edit: Yup, found it:

Sec. 3-102. - Vehicle and pedestrian communications in airport movement areas.
(a) Taxiing aircraft shall have the right-of-way in preference over pedestrians and all other motor vehicles at all airports.
(b) At any airport that has a control tower, it shall be unlawful for any person to walk or drive a vehicle on or across any portion of a movement area unless (i) that person has received proper authorization from the control tower to walk or drive on or across any portion of the movement area and is in and maintains constant radio contact with the control tower while walking or driving on or across any portion of the movement area or (ii) for an operator of an aircraft or other motor vehicle, that person has received a light signal or similar clear permission from the control tower prior to operating such aircraft or other motor vehicle on any portion of the movement area.
(c) At any airport that does not have a control tower, it shall be unlawful for any person to walk or drive a vehicle on or across any portion of the movement area unless that person has received proper authorization from the director or authorized designee to walk or drive on or across any portion of the movement area and (i) is in and maintains constant contact with the authorized UNICOM operator by way of two-way radio or (ii) is under escort by an individual who is in and maintains constant contact with the authorized UNICOM operator by way of two-way radio.
(d) A violation of this section 3-102 shall constitute a misdemeanor criminal offense punishable by a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00). >

Point of order... Airport ops guy can't fine you and can't cite you unless he's been deputized as a cop by the city. He can call the cops out to cite you, but unless you 1) admit the offense 2) he has it on camera or 3) the cop sees it with his own eyes its hard to make it stick. And its a city ordinance misdemeanor.

Just smile, nod and let the Barney Fife wanna be run his mouth. He is a steward of the property. Not god. Nor a cop.

This is exactly why Addison now has cops driving around on the airport.
