Always check your radio to make sure your radio is turned up enough to hear incoming calls check squelch.

This should get tested when you listen to AWOS/ATIS before setting your altimeter. If you are not dong that first, its just as big a problem as not knowing if the radio is turned down.

Because those are available at all (or even most) airports :rolleyes:
 
My problem was when I listened to ATIS on COM2, but had to turn down COM1 because of the constant chatter. I then failed to realize when I went back over to COM1 that the constant chatter was gone and wonder why! Doh!
