Van's RV-6 reported down near Petaluma CA airport

The siren song of the runway and the impossible turn claim two more victims. Does the desire to "save" the airplane figure into this? It appears the golf course, the road, and the field beyond it were all choices that might have bent the airplane but not been fatal.

...Does the desire to "save" the airplane figure into this?

Same psychology that caused Cirrus to have to "train out" the reluctance to pull the chute deployment handle perhaps?

Tail number is N4269Y registered to Richard A. Bristow of Carmichael, CA. Apparently his wife was the other victim. From witness descriptions it's pretty clear he fell for the impossible turn and stalled.

R.I.P.
