Interesting... http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/lifeflight/web/misc/skyport_safety_brief/helipad_safety_02.html

I thought the point on slide 19 was important for us fixed wing pilots to consider. Have you ever been on a windy ramp (aren't they almost always windy?) and you dropped a piece of paper or a chart and started chasing it down?

The slide says not to chase items that are being blown away...

How easy it would be, focused on chasing the paper, to run into a spinning prop on another plane....

Be careful!

Or into either the big cuisinart on the top of my helicopter or the little one on the tail

I was vaguely amused by the slide that talks about generating winds during ground effect. And all this time I thought ground effect was something that both fixed and rotary wing aircraft flew in, not something that we experienced :)

Their definition of a hard landing sure sounds like a crash to me :dunno:

Of course with some heliports, chasing a piece of paper could lead to a fall off the top of a tall building. I think this is less likely for fixed wing pilots.
