I was trying to update my G5 with the IGRF update. I followed the instructions (at least I believe I did). SD card has the garmin folder off the root directory. Inserted in the G5 and selected "update". It tries to reboot and I see a message: "CAN data" with a spinner. It won't move forward. I can turn off the G5, remove the card and it reboots normally.

Two questions:
1) what is CAN data?
2) Should the contents of the \garmin folder be in the root?

Thanks!

I believe the Garmin folder should be in the root directory, not the contents.

Mine is the experimental version, but I assume the update process is similar between experimental and cert models. The G5 updates the magnetometer over the CAN bus - I don't know what your message means, possibly that it's transferring data or that there's a problem transferring data (my guess would depend on how long you let it sit with that message  ), and you are correct, the Garmin folder goes in the top level directory.

Nauga,
