Trying to understand my wiring!

A lot of the pinout diagrams for my avionics specify hi or lo for connections and have never found a simple explanation for this. I'm trying to trace my dimming circuits and this may help me figure it out. Thanks --

Audio "lo" is also called audio "common", or "ground return". Its typically customary to terminate all of the audio "lows" or "ground returns" along with any shielded audio "shield drains" to a "common" grounding point. Usually close to the connector backshell on the audio panel.

If you have a piece of gear that doesn't conform to the audio "Hi" "Lo" nomenclature. Understanding this concept should go a long way towards figuring out a reasonably adequate way of wiring it.
