I think if you put yourself into that situation gliding, big cajones or not, you are going to have to land.
 
yea size of nuts doesnt matter, you gotta land. id like to know more about it though. i wonder what the crosswind, outflow, or possible microburst situation was.
 
yes it was at the US National Sports Class Contest hosted by Ceasar Creek Soaring Club, in eastern Ohio, IIRC. info from the soaring newsgroups indicate there was strong gusty winds and pretty good turbulence. the contest report from the CD that day indicated there were quite a few rough landings, some with light damage. the storm was not forecast and popped up over the airport right about the time the competitors were getting back.
