Let's say you want to search for every aircraft type that ever had a particular engine installed. Where to look? FAA site?

Ron Wan probably has it somewhere in his databases...
 
If it's a Lycoming IO-360, the home page of the Lycoming website has a drop-down cross reference by engine model number. Maybe the Continental site does too; I haven't looked for it.

Not in the registration databases; engines are often listed as "O-360 Series" without detail as to the exact model.

Somewhere in my files is a book I got from Lycoming about 25 years ago, showing what was installed in what. Hard to believe they wouldn't have a digital version, now.
