With the maintenance requirements of an early 500 series Citation. It's OK if you fly a lot, but these old airplanes normally don't fly that much is the hands of private owners. The costs really go up.

I know, I had a 551, we put 700 hours on it in 7 years, maybe 60 the last year, the fixed costs are the same 1 hour or 200 hours per year. :D

    I don't.

I used to, then I got my PPL, and realized just how boring flying a jet would be. Unless you allow for a crew as well, at which point, sure

My dream has shifted to owning something like a Socata or Pilatus, but since I doubt I'd ever be able to afford one, I have settled on a Mirage as my aspirational goal :goofy:

If you want to impress the ladies you need a jet. Period. End of discussion.

Just to set the record straight, Eclipse did not shut down. They did, however, layoff a large number of employees. The press release the company issued said that the General Aviation market has not recovered as quickly as they had anticipated so they do not need to produce as many aircraft. They will continue to build aircraft and will continue to support and upgrade the existing fleet.

Time will tell what happens down the road, but Henning is correct that you really need to understand the differences between the various versions before you jump into ownership.

378 posts in ten days--John Galt is surely the most masterful troll I have ever seen, and I have been involved with computer conferencing since before the internet even existed (or at least was publicly available). Anyway, well done, JG! We are, all of us here, in the presence of greatness.

There is nothing in your statement that I can find fault with. I hope to continue to be an inspiration and a role model for what can be done. Well let's face it not many of you will be able to follow me but it is always useful to have a goal to strive towards and being John Galt is a worthy one even if unobtainable.

Now you're talking JG! Actually all you need for impressing ladies is a puppy! Women go ape **** over dogs especially cute wee lil pups. No car or jet works as well to get laid. Plus dogs are less expensive and man's best friend :)

You guys are so mean. I think it is a very attainable and smart plan. If fact I am doing the same thin and I am well on my way as of yesterday. I was just promoted to assistant manager at mcdonalds. Since I don't have a pile of money like John, I will continue to fly msfs and now I can put back two dollars per hour towards my Lear and training.

Actually I am a little confused. John said he had all cash, but later was going to take a loan and then charge 5k per cross country and put half of that amount towards the loan. He should consider consulting for the charter companies, I am guessing they would love margins like that.

Fortunately like john I am of superior intellect and have a plan. I am going to apply for the managers position and keep the assistant managers position. I will work about 50 hours per day and once I am good at it, I will do the same thing at three other restaurants. (Don't worry, I tried this on a video game and it was easy).

I hope all the mean people on here flip upside down in John and my wake turbulence.

    Thank you.

Well for a second there I thought you were someone of the same level as myself but these comments would seem to indicate that you're more at the level of some of these other people around here with not enough money. Just look at that dreadful thread about sacrifices people have made to fly. They are mostly lonely men working too hard and driving crappy cars to afford to fly an old piece of junk. Depressing! It is good to aspire to great things and please feel free to use me as a role model but at the same time it is important to remember what you are and to know your place. Which in your case is a fast food service worker. You need to temper your goals to that reality.

Sadly I'm not so sure this is true.

Not a bad plan. Testing it out in a sim is also a smart move. But your choice of industry is poor. There is only so much you can do in the fast food industry.

I wish them no ill. This is something I have had to deal with my entire life. Jealous individuals who need to try to put me down. Don't let this eat you up. They want what I have. No necessarily what you have (which is not much admittedly). Again this is about me, less so about you. i don't mind giving some of the limelight to you though. You're welcome.

    John,

Thanks for the kind words. I will try to learn through your posts and emulate you as much as possible.

I do want to follow in your footsteps, can you post your logbook so I know the path you have started down.

If Mr Galt is half as wise as he appears, he'll just skip log books, medicals, and licensing altogether and just pay cash for a Lear 2x and just keep putting fuel in it and flying it until it just won't fly anymore. MSFS has plenty of plug ins for him to learn to game the IFR system as well. Just sound like you know what you're talking about with your call ups and no one will question if you have a ticket.

    Pete, er I mean John,

Maybe I shouldn't follow your lead. I can promise you that if I had received training at Simcom, it would be in my log book. It would count towards your ppl and insurance requirements.

J - in a dozen years teaching 30 and 40 series LearJet for the world's largest pilot and maintenance training operation I have had exactly one client who owned the airplane... along with the family owned chemical company that the airplane supported. Oh yeah, and one uber rich guy (think NFL team owner) whose family owned the jet. We're i in your shoes I'd do what it takes to get a commercial and multi while making friends with every chief pilot or operator that you can find flying the equipment and trying to work for them; that might get you the training and type rating that you'd need from CAE, FSI or one of the other training corporations... After that, who knows? Good luck!
