Are they keeping 8414C in an unheated hangar? Bat died from the cold?
Also, I live right by the airport so LMK if you need a hand with that next time!

Edit: due to autocorrect being incorrect...

Unheated hangar, but the team an hour before me was cranking on a charged battery - left it half dead for me. I did not have the master on. The owner and I discussed it and thought that the master off might have been my primary malfunction. But he hasn’t done it in years and couldn’t recall for sure whether it was switched.

oh well. I’m in a different airplane tomorrow

Bat died because the previous renters couldn’t start the plane after 3-4 tries o_O

    Yep. Avoid Russian windows (below).

Those with money and power have also been exceptionally proactive in completely suspicious, inexplicable murder/suicides this year in Spain, England, Russia and beyond!

Passed. Got the hard questions right. Missed a few easy ones. Luckily I had time to review my answers to change a few to the wrong choice :)

For anyone in the neighborhood, KOGB (Orangeburg, SC) has 100LL @ $5.70.

AirNav shows only full service available but they have a nice self service pump also. Great airport & friendly folks there ...

    (not being snarky about terminology)

WDD’s post about taking the “written” made me think about “written” vs “knowledge”.

How many of us refer to it as a “written” still? even when we are quite new to aviation?

    just being curious…..

Interesting. I've always called it "written", and I see almost everyone around here refers to it that way as well. Old habits die hard I guess.

I upgraded my Internet connection from 75Mbps to 400Mbps a few months ago. My area 660 database updates used to take 60 minutes. Now they take 55 minutes.

Doesn’t matter how fast your connection is if their end can’t supply it any faster. But you know that, I’m sure…

I checked against a number of Internet speed tests (Google, Ookla, Xfinity, Speakeasy, etc) both before and after the upgrade.
Gigabit Ethernet over cat5e/cat6 for any device that can take it. The WiFi router is tri-band AC3600 MU-MIMO.
I suspect Garmin is doing something silly like send a packet, ACK the packet, send a packet, ACK the packet, etc rather than just streaming the file down. Either that or Garmin used a really bad eMMC implementation. Updating panel mounted devices via saving to SDHC (UHS mark I) is nowhere near as slow as the aera.

I just called a place to get checked out in a PA30 for time building. Their insurance wants 100 hours time in type before solo .

Also they're booked until end-January. So now I'm going through the exercise on how far I'd fly to transition to a PA30. This op is at KIKK and I've found them to rent at 3G3, KHFJ, 5R4, KBHM, and KFME. I'm thinking south - right? Better weather down there? So perhaps Alabama wins?

Because the guy who owns one near me won't put me on the insurance to fly his until I have 25 hours in type. The only other MEI that was on that insurance left to go fly for a 135 op.

I attempted to get my ATP in an early Twin Comanche, but the owner/CFI was an insufferable a-hole and I only flew it once.

I learned about the wheelbarrowing and landing issues if you were not right on the proper airspeeds.

The VXse and Blue line were such that it was obvious this was a modified single engine airplane. Cool looking plane, though...

it's definitely an invitation for you to build some time there. HOWEVER, being the solid bro I am, I just called them to find out which location has the pa30, as I would have highly recommended the ILM location, but it turns out they sold it, so that sux. wilmington would have been a great place for u to bring the wifey along, do your training, and at the same time check out the area, which is pretty awesome.

    I appreciate the solid.

The alternative is to do this over a few weekends - fly down and spend Sat/Sun flying. 5+ hrs a day and get to my 25. I was offered to be safety pilot on the PA30 but 1) I won't really learn the plane; 2) it would take years to safety pilot 25 hours!

So I'm slowly building a map of organizations/flight schools with PA30 available for multi/time-building. I find one at 1TT8 (near San Antonio) near my in-laws - cool! I look up plane tickets for the family and my jaw drops!

I can now officially fly the club P28R for the same price as 4 airline tickets down there! in economy

So I was going to go do some night flying this evening. After taxing the plane to the pump and refueling I started it back up and the G5 screen is black (pictured). I try power cycling with the master to no effect. I hold the power button for a few seconds, I try everything I can think of...

I was about 20 seconds from blowing a gasket since I just had this installed 5 months ago - when Google informs me fellow POA'ers already have a fix! Hold the power down for a full 10s and it's right as rain!

So thank you fellow POAers. You helped me avoid either a stroke or going absolutely postal -- or some mix of the two!

How was your flight? I wanted to fly today but had other obligations (and no plane).

Also, how’s your IR coming along?

I didn't fly. I spent so long looking at the G5 that by the time I was good to go I had to park it so I could head to dinner.... At least I got yesterday's night flying in :)

Trying to get the IFR practical done before plane goes in for annual on 2/6. Doing another 12 hours this week.

I'm going to try and make it over to RPJ! I might be flying there from KAZO in the morning, hoping the timing (and wx) works out.

Just don't ask me about holding pattern entry: direct, parallel, teardrop. That's just sadistic!

Speaking of cousins, every U.S. president (except 1) is a descendant of King John of England. And, no, you are wrong about the exception.

I'm "related" to 22 presidents. I have an ancestor that came to the colonies very early. If you have that, you're pretty much related to a lot of US history.
