My Feb/Mar edition of The Beaver (recently renamed Canada's History, much to most reader's distress) just came and it has a terrific article on a Canadian gal from the 1950's who accomplished many aviation feats including beating all the men in various air races, and flying a C170 (a Cessna) to Cuba to meet Pres. Batista!

Geraldine "Gerry" Mock, a housewife and mother of three was the first woman to fly solo around the world. From my home-town, too.
