I haven't been flying for centuries like some of you guys, but I took a look at the prog chart today and don't ever recall seeing this many pressure areas at one time...

Seems like a lot. The weather needs to make up its mind. :)
 
I think one needs to break down a ‘big picture’ chart like that into specific, pertinent TAFs. That way you get a handle on weather, winds, ceilings & such for a flight in question. Often it’s not as chaotic as that chart may show, plus one has specific areas & airports in mind, for a defined timeframe.
 
Some of those are like 2mb apart from each other. Seems like an automated map that the algorithms got a little goofy.
