I was supposed to fly my son up to NY for spring break, but my other plane was in the shop (I've been waiting my whole life to say that...), so we drove instead. We lived on hot dogs and pizza and cookies and ice cream for a few days. It was awesome.

Day one: Texas Hot Weiner Lunch, Hanover, PA. Note the ketchup on the hot dog.

Then, we walked a few doors down to Timeline arcade so that my son could play Spy Hunter and RoadBlasters for real.

Day two: No weiners, but we ate at a pizza place that I'm pretty sure was run by the Fratelli brothers. Stopped by Stewart's for maple walnut ice cream. Aww yeah.

Day three: Dallas Hot Weiners, Saugerties, NY. Note the cole slaw on the hot dog.

Day four: Stopped by Joni's 340 Diner on the way home. My son had a pancake that was about the size of a manhole cover.

If your other plane was in the shop, then why didn't you take your plane? And who the hell takes their dad on spring break? :skeptical:

by the way - you DO know what those are made of doncha?

Kindergarteners get a spring break now? I guess they need to unwind after the daily grind of nap time. ;)

My grandfather used to take my father to Dallas Hot Weiners when my father was a child. The original was in Kingston. That started a family tradition of each generation schlepping the kids to Kingston to have hot dogs. I actually made the trip from New York City a few times with no other purpose.

The sauce is still great, but unfortunately, the hot dogs have shrunk. They used to be much bigger.

Gosh, I'd forgotten about Hot Weiner Lunch. I've not been up there in over twenty years (I used to have to go up there when I was working for the Army, we had some depots in that area of PA).

You omitted many good outlets in NJ. I loved the Texas Wieners, there's one in Plainfield. Of course, as you approach Newark, you get New Jersey's own "Italian Hot Dog"

Nah, they beat the nap out of them last year. Kid's in school from 8:30 to 5. At least the homework is optional, for now.

Lol, there's a small roadside restaurant in Altoona, PA called Texas Hot Dogs. Every time I drive by it, I wonder WTF is a "Texas" hot dog? It's not even something they're known for. I'm not much of a hot dog fan, so I never stop into the place to try it. I generally have hot dogs about twice a year, which is generally at a baseball game. Now a good brat, I can do those!

Hmm, in Chicago, the wieners are from Vienna Beef. In NYC, it seems like Nathan's are the hot setup, but go upstate and Sahlen's looks like the favored brand.

We can get Sahlen's and Nathan's here, but Vienna Beef are scarce.

On a different sandwich track, there's a place not too far from here that serves a Chicago quality Italian Beef, and you can order an Old Style to wash it down. Yum. They do have Vienna Beef dogs as well.

I have no idea what hot dogs are served in Texas.

Same here. I might eat something in a bun maybe once a year so hot dogs are a tough venue for me. I might cave in to a massive Costco hot dog.

I much prefer the Costco Polish Dog over the hot dog. Now that I'm doing Keto, I'm not sure I want to risk me falling face-first into a bun again ... bread still sings its' siren song to me.

If I recall correctly, the Arlington ballpark does have the "Boomstick" hot dog, but that's not something I would attribute to anything other than the Rangers, lol.

Pops and I used to go over to Costco just about every Sunday and split a dog. Haven’t had one in a while, but they’re sure tasty!

The sodium content in one alone will just about kill ya, but it would be a happy death.

As noted above, NJ has a number of Texas Wiener and Texas Hot dog stands. Yet I've never seen one called that in Texas.

Do they have them there? It's possible I've just never noticed, as I'm always more focussed on the BBQ when I'm there.

Yep ... that sodium thingy is why I have to defer the hotdogs these days.

Me and my coworkers used to travel around the area here and see who had the best "convenience store" dogs that we could have for lunch. Amazingly enough there was a little superette store in the middle of nowhere that had some pretty tasty dogs with whatever you can imagine on top ...

Ah, roller dogs! I’ve sampled a great many in my travels on motorcycles. Luckily, in some areas gas station food has advanced, as some of the fried chicken and pizzas aren’t bad!
