South Texas Vacation / Mooney Factory Tour

We took a nice vacation to the South Texas Hill Country, floated the Frio River, etc. Camped with some friends for 7 days. One day, we took a "field trip" to see some aviation related things... thought some of you might like to see the pictures and notes we took on our trip into Fredericksburg and Kerrville.

Wow Troy!! Where exactly did you stay? Scenery like that is pretty much as good as I've seen in Texas.

Those pictures are wonderful! The pic's of the Mooney factory were very informative...now I really want to go down and see how the birds are put together.

Very very close!!! We were just a bit due west of Utopia, though we did drive through it on another field trip we took, over to Utopia and then north to the Lost Maples State Park. The highway from Lost Maples (Vanderpool) back west to Leaky was perhaps the most beautiful scenic drive we took.

There is a paved airport in Leaky; would make a great fly-in vacation.

Will do, Bill. Can I bum a ride in your Commander? They've always been one of my favorite planes (looks-wise). Do you do Angel Flights for AFSC? Maybe I could co-pilot for you sometime and split fuel costs...

Real County Airport in Leaky, TX would be a great mid-continent fly-in location for the group. Sounds like Spike's already been there--there's a comment from him on the FBO.

Floating the Frio is so much fun. And River Bend has shelters, camp-sites, RV hookups and even cottages with kitchens and A/C for those that don't want to rough it.
