Sensors monitor aircraft defects

That's a pretty neat idea. But, I don't think they should cut back and certainly not eliminate inspections for quite some time.

They might first prove their value on carrier-based Navy aircraft. There are few things more stressful than an airframe made of titanium, aluminum and steel worth $40-50 million slamming down onto the carrier deck at a 120 KIAS or so and being stopped by a single hook in the tail. :eek:
